Florida Council of Bromeliad Societies

于每月第三个星期三晚 7 时聚会,并出版《Orlandiana》月刊;Bromeliad Society of South Florida 在 Fairchild Tropical Gardens Old Cutler Road, Miami 于每月第三个星期二晚 7:30 聚会,并出版《The BromeliAdvisory》月刊;Caloosahatchee Bromeliad Society 在 Lee County Garden Council Building 2166 Virginia Avenue, Fort Myers 于每月第三个星期日下午 2 时聚会,并出版《Caloosahatchee Meristem》月刊。

Victoria Padilla《Bromeliads》、David H. Benzing《The Biology of the Bromeliads》、Paul T. Isley III《Tillandsia》《Tillandsia II》、Elton M. C. Leme《Canistrum》《Nidularium》等专著的书评。 Bromeliad Society of New South Wales、Bromeliad Society of Queensland、Sunshine Coast Bromeliad Society、Bromeliad Society of New Zealand 等。

Bromeliad Family Features and International Cultivar Registration

Bromeliaceae is a monocot family native to tropical America comprising more than 3000 species in 56 genera across 8 subfamilies, with the commercial pineapple (Ananas comosus) among its members. The Council maintains online databases of species, subspecies, natural hybrids, and cultivar names, including the annotated catalogue of generic names published by Jason R. Grant and G. Zijlstra in Selbyana in 1998, plus the Tillandsia grey-leaf identification key and Bromeliad Key for Dummies maintained by Derek Butcher. The Council also coordinates with the Mulford B. Foster Bromeliad Research Center at Marie Selby Botanical Gardens and the U.S. National Herbarium at the Smithsonian Institution, providing stable documentation for taxonomic revision and conservation of Florida’s native Tillandsia, Catopsis, and Guzmania populations.

Academic Resources and International Affiliate Network

Council resources span native habitat archives, pest management guides, academic monographs, and literature search. The Bromeliad Habitats section documents native populations in Brazil’s Mata Atlântica, Chapada Diamantina, Fakahatchee Strand (Florida), Ecuador, and Colombia. The Bromeliad Biota and Scale Insects that Eat Bromeliads sections by Dr. Howard Frank cover the Mexican bromeliad weevil (Metamasius callizona) and scale insect pests with integrated pest management guidelines. The Book Reviews section covers Victoria Padilla’s Bromeliads, David H. Benzing’s The Biology of the Bromeliads, Paul T. Isley III’s Tillandsia and Tillandsia II, and Elton M. C. Leme’s Canistrum and Nidularium. The Council maintains international affiliate links with more than ten societies worldwide, including the Bromeliad Society of New South Wales, Bromeliad Society of Queensland, Sunshine Coast Bromeliad Society, and Bromeliad Society of New Zealand.
