协会历史与创立
国际凤梨协会（Bromeliad Society International，简称BSI）创立于1950年，总部现设于佛罗里达州卢茨（Lutz）。作为全球规模最大的凤梨科植物协会，BSI由一群凤梨爱好者在加利福尼亚州南部发起，最初名为南加利福尼亚凤梨协会（Southern California Bromeliad Society），于1951年成为BSI的第一个附属机构。协会自创立以来，已发展为拥有全球会员的国际化组织，下设多个专业委员会和地区分会。
宗旨与使命
BSI的宗旨是促进并维护公众和科学界对凤梨科植物的兴趣，推动其研究、开发、保护和在全球范围内的品种交流传播。协会致力于整合全球凤梨资源，为育种者、种植者和爱好者提供品种注册、科研合作与知识共享的平台，维持凤梨品种的国际登记权威。

出版物与期刊
BSI定期出版《凤梨杂志》（BSI Journal），_archive记录了自1950年以来全球凤梨领域的学术论文、品种介绍、种植技术和协会动态。期刊_archive可供会员查阅全文，是凤梨研究领域的重要文献资源。此外协会还出版销售专业资料和年鉴。
世界凤梨大会
BSI每两年举办一次世界凤梨大会（World Bromeliad Conference），聚集全球凤梨专家、育种者和爱好者进行学术交流与品种展示。下一届大会将于2026年在加利福尼亚州举行。大会期间同时举办专业展览、拍卖会和种植工作坊。

History and Founding
The Bromeliad Society International (BSI) was established in 1950, with its world headquarters currently in Lutz, Florida. As the largest bromeliad organization in the world, BSI was originally founded by a group of enthusiasts in Southern California. The Southern California Bromeliad Society was organized in November 1951 and became the first affiliate of the Bromeliad Society. Over the decades, the organization has grown into a truly global association with members and chapters worldwide.
Purpose and Mission
BSI’s purpose is to promote and maintain public and scientific interest in the research, development, preservation, and distribution of bromeliads — both natural species and hybrids — throughout the world. The society serves as the authoritative body for international cultivar registration and provides a global platform for breeders, growers, and enthusiasts to collaborate and share knowledge.
Key Functions and Cultivar Registration
The society performs several vital functions: operating the Official International Registry of Bromeliad hybrid and cultivar names, maintaining the Bromeliad Species Database, providing cultivar certification and judges certification programs, hosting the biennial World Bromeliad Conference, and awarding research grants. BSI also maintains a formal archive, housed at the University of Central Florida Library Special Collections, open to public researchers.
Publications and Journal
BSI publishes the BSI Journal regularly, with archives dating back to 1950 covering academic papers, cultivar introductions, cultivation techniques, and society news from around the world. The journal archives are available to members for full-text research. The society also publishes and sells specialized reference materials and yearbooks.
World Bromeliad Conference
BSI hosts the World Bromeliad Conference every two years, bringing together global experts, breeders, and enthusiasts for academic exchange and cultivar displays. The next conference is scheduled for 2026 in California. These events feature exhibitions, auctions, and hands-on cultivation workshops alongside formal presentations.
Organizational Structure and Global Network
BSI maintains chapters and affiliated societies across the United States and in dozens of countries worldwide. The organization is governed by a board of officers with responsibilities spanning world headquarters, international liaison roles, cultivar registration, conservation, judges certification, publication sales, and media.
