About the Arboretum

Evergreen Arboretum and Gardens is a 3.5-acre public garden within Everett’s American Legion Memorial Park in Washington State. Founded in 1963 and operated as an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) non-profit, the Arboretum is maintained by the Evergreen Arboretum Foundation, garden curators, and Everett Parks and Facilities. Admission is free, the grounds are open 365 days a year from dawn until dusk, and free parking is available at the entrance on 145 Alverson Boulevard.

Garden Areas & Sculptures

The Arboretum contains twelve themed gardens: the Urban Tree Walk, Rock Garden, Northwest Native Plant Trail, Japanese Maple Grove, Nativar Garden, Backyard Garden, Horizontal Rock Garden, Viewing Mound, Woodland Garden & Fernery, Conifer Garden, Sedum Bowls, and the Snohomish County Master Gardeners’ Demonstration Border. Twenty-three sculptures punctuate the landscape, and the ADA-approved pathway system links each area so visitors can move easily between formal collections and informal native plantings.

Guided Tours & Self-Guided Exploration

Docent-led tours are offered from April through October for groups of all ages and must be booked at least one month in advance. Tours are tailored to youth or adult audiences, last about an hour, and are free of charge, although donations help sustain the gardens. Self-guided exploration materials — including tree-bark and leaf rubbings, nature-color scavenger hunts, and reading prompts — are designed for kids, families, and school groups visiting on their own.

Classes, Events & Book Walk

Annual events include Autumn Fest, the Pet Mayors of the Arboretum fundraiser, the Deck the Boughs artist call, fall container planting demonstrations, winter-preparation workshops, and a Tree Talk series on specimen trees. Gardening classes are taught by certified Master Gardeners on topics ranging from conifer care to seed saving. In partnership with the Everett Public Library, the Conifer Garden Book Walk displays a children’s book page by page along the conifer path.

Membership, Volunteering & Giving

Membership starts at 25 USD and includes early access to the June Plant Sale, a monthly e-newsletter, an invitation to the annual membership dinner in March, and a free August members-only reception. Volunteers lead tours, teach classes, serve on the board, staff events, and assist with gardening days, and are entered in a monthly Sunnyside gift-card drawing. The Foundation accepts general donations, employer matching gifts, tribute-tree dedications, and corporate sponsorships.
