Eastwoods Nurseries is a small, family-run tree nursery located in Washington, Virginia, in the foothills of Virginia’s mountain country. The nursery specializes in Japanese Maples (over 300 varieties), Ginkgos (about 30 cultivars), and selected Conifers (about 80 selections). Tree sizes range from one-year seedlings to mature specimens with trunks up to 8 inches in diameter. The nursery serves collectors, connoisseurs, designers, landscape architects, and everyday gardeners, backed by expert advice on selection, planting, care, and pruning.
Japanese Maple Collection
Japanese Maples offer remarkable variety, versatility, and year-round beauty. Forms include dwarf, upright, mounding, rounded, weeping, spreading, and vase, reaching heights from two to over thirty feet at maturity. Spring brings pink, orange, and red; summer shifts to lime or bronze (or maintains red or green); fall displays yellows, golds, oranges, scarlets, purples, and blues. Some variegated cultivars show multiple seasons of color simultaneously. In winter, the graceful branching structure and textured bark become the focal point. Japanese Maples are low-maintenance, resistant to most diseases and pests, and prefer well-drained soil in USDA Zones 4 through 8.
Ginkgos and Conifers
The nursery carries approximately 30 Ginkgo cultivars and about 80 Conifer selections. Ginkgo varieties include ‘Autumn Gold’ (superior fall color), ‘Chi chi’ (midsized leaves), ‘Chase Manhattan’ (compact upright), and more, available in sizes from 1 gallon to 12 gallons. Conifer selections span Abies, Chamaecyparis obtusa, Picea, Pinus, Tsuga, and other genera, ranging from 1-gallon liners to 12-gallon specimens.
Mature Specimens and Specialty Products
Eastwoods maintains a large inventory of field-grown, hand-dug mature specimens. Available cultivars include Koto no ito, Osakazuki, Bloodgood, Waterfall, Shojo nomura, Burgundy Lace, Orangeola, and more; quotes, photos, and measurements available upon request.
