鲁姆伍德苗圃（Rumwood Nurseries）是 Rumwoods Limited 名下的公司，专做玫瑰和树木的种植，1965 年开张，到今年份是六十多年。公司自己的说法是英格兰东南部最大的玫瑰种植商，两个场子分别在肯特郡 Langley 的梅德斯托附近和东萨塞克斯郡 Crowborough 的 Royal Mires，批发零售同时做，客户从英伦三岛一直到欧洲大陆。

全职员工大约三十人，管着苗圃、花园中心和种植田共用的 160 英亩土地。公司是玫瑰种植者协会和园艺行业协会的成员，也是英国玫瑰育种者协会的注册种植者。规模摆在这儿，两处场子都欢迎自己来看玫瑰田。

两个场子和营业时间

肯特郡的场子在 Langley，紧挨 A274，离梅德斯托不到两英里，离利兹城堡和 M20 高速公路都在两英里以内，开车不绕。营业时间周一到周六八点到下午五点，周日十点到四点。东萨塞克斯的 Royal Mires 在 Crowborough 的 Lye Green，靠 A26，Groombridge Place Gardens 在三英里内，Tunbridge Wells 和阿什当森林都在六英里左右。这个场子周一到周六九点到五点半，周日十点到四点。银行假日照常营业。

肯特那个场子里还开着一家叫 The Coffee Garden 的咖啡馆，每天十点到下午三点，卖本地烘焙的咖啡、各式茶、冷饮和蛋糕糕点，边逛边喝的地方。

玫瑰产品线

年产四十万株以上的玫瑰，这是苗圃对外最常讲的一个数字。线上商店 britishroses.co.uk 是专门的玫瑰网店，目录里有三百多个品种，盆栽和裸根都有。裸根苗十一月到三月发货，但订单全年都收；盆栽苗全年供应，每株四升盆。

选品种的入口分了几种：按字母顺序的 A to Z 表、按类型分的目录（杂种茶香月季、丰花月季这些）、按场合分的特别推荐——生日、结婚、订婚、生日、乔迁、退休、纪念，包括母亲节、父亲节和情人节；另外还有按种植位置分的，比如朝北墙面和背阴处这类难种的地方。礼盒装是近几年加的，盆栽苗连同贺卡装进系缎带的麻布袋，附赠写着祝词的卡片。

苗圃特别写了一句话：一束玫瑰看着漂亮，但撑不过一个星期；一株活的玫瑰能活很多年。苗圃还做盆栽芍药的邮购。

其他植物与园艺用品

玫瑰之外，花园中心按十几个门类铺开：观赏树木、果树、针叶树、各类规格的大苗和标本树、观赏灌木、树篱植物、攀缘植物、建筑造型植物、多年生植物、高山植物、草本、观赏草、蕨类、竹子、时令花卉、一年生花卉、草皮、室内植物、种子和球根，另有意大利进口的植物。

配套的园艺用品包括花盆和陶土花盆、花园装饰、园路铺装和骨料、树皮覆盖物与堆肥、温室、户外家具。野生动物那一块有野鸟饲料、喂食器和巢箱，宠物那一块有狗粮、猫粮、小动物用品。礼品和卡片也放在店里卖。

树篱是单独的一条产品线，站上另有一份树篱目录，讲了树篱的好处和种植方法，方便成片围栏需求的客户直接照着下单。

批发与贸易区

批发这头是苗圃的重要客户来源。公司有一块专门的 Trade Zone，客户包括花园中心、苗圃、地方议会、殡仪馆、休闲公园、公用事业公司、乡村公园、高尔夫球场、酒店、商业园区和住宅开发商，景观设计师和园艺承包商也在列。园艺品种类齐全，从一年生苗到大树都能供，量大可以谈。

About Rumwood Nurseries

Rumwood Nurseries is part of Rumwoods Limited, a specialist grower of roses and trees founded in 1965 and trading for more than sixty years. It describes itself as the South East’s largest rose grower, runs two garden centres — one at Langley near Maidstone in Kent, the other Royal Mires at Crowborough in East Sussex — and supplies both trade and retail customers across the British Isles and into mainland Europe. Around thirty staff work the nursery, the garden centres and 160 acres of growing land.

Two Sites and Opening Times

The Kent site sits just off the A274 at Langley, under two miles from both Leeds Castle and the M20. It opens 8am to 5pm Monday to Saturday and 10am to 4pm on Sunday. Royal Mires at Lye Green, Crowborough is just off the A26, close to Groombridge Place Gardens, and opens 9am to 5.30pm on weekdays and 10am to 4pm on Sunday. Both trade on bank holidays. The Kent garden centre also runs The Coffee Garden, open daily from 10am to 3pm with locally roasted coffee, tea, cold drinks and cakes.

The Rose Range

The nursery grows more than 400,000 rose plants a year. Its dedicated online shop, britishroses.co.uk, lists over 300 varieties in both potted and bare-root form. Bare-root roses are lifted from the field while dormant and shipped from November to March, though orders can be placed any time; potted roses are supplied all year in four-litre pots. Varieties can be browsed alphabetically, by rose type, by occasion — birthdays, weddings, engagements, new baby, house warming, retirement, remembrance, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day and Valentine’s Day — and by growing position, including north-facing walls and shady areas. Potted gift sets arrive in a ribbon-tied hessian bag with a written card, and peonies are also grown for mail order.

Beyond Roses

The garden centres carry a wide spread besides roses: ornamental and fruit trees, conifers, specimen trees and large shrubs, hedging, climbers, architectural plants, perennials, alpines, herbs, ornamental grasses, ferns, bamboo, seasonal and bedding plants, turf, houseplants, seeds, bulbs and imported Italian stock. Alongside sit pots and stoneware, garden ornaments, paving and aggregates, bark and composts, greenhouses and outdoor furniture, plus wild bird food and feeders and pet care. Hedging is handled as its own line with a separate catalogue covering its benefits and planting.

Wholesale and Trade

A Trade Zone supplies garden centres, nurseries, local authorities, crematoriums, recreational parks, utility companies, country parks, golf courses, hotels, business parks, housing developers, landscape architects and landscapers, with everything from annuals to mature trees available in bulk. Most new trade accounts arrive by referral from existing clients, and roses in particular have their own wholesale arrangements, with orders handled direct by negotiation.
