Roses Anciennes en France

Roses Anciennes en France

(Conservation Committee of Heritage Roses in Australia、HRNZI、HRG UK 等)。

About Roses Anciennes en France

Roses Anciennes en France is a French non-profit association registered under the 1901 Law on Associations (loi 1901) and recognised d’intérêt général by the Direction des Services Fiscaux du Rhône. Active since 1995, it brings together around 250 heritage rose enthusiasts across France and abroad to preserve and popularise the cultivation of old roses in contemporary gardens. The association’s three-fold mission is to safeguard a fragile and under-recognised botanical heritage, to enable gardeners of all levels to grow old roses in their own gardens, and to consolidate dispersed knowledge and plant material across France and internationally.

Activities

Annual programming centres on conférences, voyages, visites de jardins and presence at foires aux plantes. Conférences are typically scheduled in winter and spring; garden visits and shows cluster around the flowering season in May and June. Biennial study trips take the membership abroad to inspect particular breeders, classes or country-of-origin collections. Some activities are reserved for members; public events carry a small ticket fee.

Bulletin and Image Archive

The association publishes one bilingual Bulletin per year. The Bulletin gathers research-driven articles from scientists, rosarians, professional growers and serious amateurs on identification, propagation, garden use and historical research. The website also hosts a long-running image archive (photothèque) organised both alphabetically and by colour; entries list the cultivar name, the collector, the garden and the year of photography. Public access to the archive is free; commercial reuse requires prior arrangement.

Network and Partnerships

Through its own membership and through long-running cooperation with the Société Française des Roses, regional salons and international heritage rose groups, the association remains an active node in the French-speaking and wider European heritage rose network. Its bulletin and lectures regularly draw on cross-border expertise, and reciprocal links appear in sister organisations in Belgium, the United Kingdom, Luxembourg, Canada and the Southern Hemisphere.

How to participate

Membership enquiries, public lecture bookings and donation enquiries can be directed through the website contact form or via the historical postal address in the Lyon area; the association offers tiered annual membership and welcomes both casual supporters and active volunteers.
