1994年由希腊创立的地中海气候园艺协会
国际地中海花园协会（Mediterranean Garden Society，简称 MGS）于 1994 年在希腊成立，是一家面向地中海气候区植物和园艺爱好者的非营利协会。协会把分散在希腊、加州、澳大利亚、智利、南非等夏旱气候区的从业者连成一张协作网，现有会员覆盖 38 个国家。英语是工作语言，网站还运营法语、希腊语、意大利语和西班牙语四个分站。
Sparoza 示范花园与 Tyrwhitt 遗赠
协会管理的 Sparoza 花园位于雅典郊外 Attica 山坡上，最早由英国景观设计师 Mary Jaqueline Tyrwhitt 在 1960 年代营造。Tyrwhitt 在世时坚持只种能熬过雅典漫长干夏的植物，引种来源覆盖希腊、南非、加州、墨西哥和澳大利亚，1983 年去世后花园留给 Goulandris 自然史博物馆。Sally Razelou 担任 Custodian 近三十年直至 2021 年 3 月离世，她也是发起建立 MGS 的核心人物。花园现在由 Head Gardener Lucinda Willan 团队维护，约有 1,000 种植物。
季刊《The Mediterranean Garden》与种子交换
协会出版的季刊 The Mediterranean Garden 由 Caroline Harbouri 主编，每年 1、4、7、10 月发行，至今已出到 2026 年 7 月的第 125 期，主题包括 2026 年 4 月的加州原生植物、2026 年 7 月的西班牙南部科尔多瓦庭院节和 Málaga 退化土地修复。会员可免费索取每年 10 份（捐赠者 15 份）种子目录，目录由 Chantal Guiraud 维护，2026 年 7 月共收录约 500 个分类群，加上 Château Pérouse 提供的约 1,600 个 Index seminum，全部按捐赠者标注采集地点与时间。

协会现有 16 个正式分支，包括 Andalucía、Attica、Balearic Islands、Corfu、Costa Blanca、Crete、Cyprus、France、German-Speaking Countries、Italy、Northern California、Pelion and Sporades、Peloponnese、Portugal、South Australia、Southern California、United Kingdom、Victoria、Western Australia 等。协会每年组织 2 到 3 次国际花园游，2024 年 10 月是南澳分支接待的”花园之旅 Down Under”，2026 年 4 月是撒丁岛地质与私家花园考察，2026 年 10 月 AGM 与年度游计划前往法国南部 Côte d’Azur，覆盖 Grasse、Nice、Monaco、Menton 与意大利 Ventimiglia 七天行程。
会费、捐赠与 Webinar 公开课
2026 年度个人会员费 €55（希腊地址 €50），仅订电子版 €45，双人会籍 €80；2 年期个人会籍 €110、双人 €160。捐款汇入 IBAN GR7602600910000710200382574（SWIFT ERBKGRAA）。第二周三晚 Zoom Webinar 自 2021 年起开办，2026 年已是第六个年度，全部以 18:00 CET（罗马时间）开讲，主题聚焦水保护、混栽、苗圃选育。Sally Razelou Memorial Fund 负责纪念性奖学金，2026 年上半年 Villy Loumaki 在 Webinar 报告了 Sparoza 长期气温与降水记录里的气候变迁。
A Greek-founded association for mediterranean-climate gardening (1994)
The Mediterranean Garden Society (MGS) is a non-profit association founded in Greece in 1994 for everyone with a special interest in the plants and gardens of mediterranean-climate regions. It now has members in 38 countries. English is the working language, with additional websites in French, Greek, Italian and Spanish. Members receive the quarterly journal The Mediterranean Garden and may join local branches, the Seed Exchange, international garden tours and the Webinars programme.
The garden at Sparoza and the Tyrwhitt bequest
Sparoza is an experimental garden on the outskirts of Athens created by Mary Jaqueline Tyrwhitt, who for 20 years until her death in 1983 grew plants adapted to Athens’ long, dry summers from Greece, South Africa, California, Mexico and Australia. She bequeathed the garden to the Goulandris Natural History Museum. Sally Razelou served as Custodian for nearly thirty years until her death in March 2021 and was one of the founders of the MGS. Today Head Gardener Lucinda Willan maintains the collection of nearly 1,000 plants and shares weekly favourites on the In Bloom Now page.
The Mediterranean Garden journal and the Seed Exchange
The Mediterranean Garden is a quarterly journal edited by Caroline Harbouri, issued in January, April, July and October. Issue 125 of July 2026 covers the Patios Cordobeses festival in Córdoba and land restoration in Málaga; issue 124 of April 2026 looks at California native plants. Back issues are available from the Secretary at €8 per copy including postage. Chantal Guiraud runs the Seed Exchange; the July 2026 list has around 500 taxa, plus about 1,600 taxa from the Château Pérouse Index seminum, and members may order up to 10 packets (15 for donors) per year free of charge.
Sixteen branches across the mediterranean-climate world
MGS branches organise meetings and activities locally. Current branches include Andalucía, Attica, Balearic Islands, Corfu, Costa Blanca, Crete, Cyprus, France, German-Speaking Countries, Italy, Northern California, Pelion and Sporades, Peloponnese, Portugal, South Australia, Southern California, United Kingdom, Victoria and Western Australia. The Society also runs two to three international garden tours per year: Sardinia in April 2026, the Garden Tour Down Under hosted by South Australia in October 2024, Morocco in 2022, and the AGM tour to the French Riviera (Grasse, Nice, Monaco, Menton, Ventimiglia) in October 2026.
Membership, donations and MGS Webinars
Annual subscriptions for 2026 are €55 single (€50 for Greek addresses), €45 e-journal only, and €80 joint; a two-year single membership costs €110. Donations may be made by bank transfer to IBAN GR7602600910000710200382574, SWIFT ERBKGRAA. The MGS Second Wednesdays Webinar series started in 2021 and is now in its sixth year, with English-language talks at 18:00 CET. Recent sessions include Lucinda Willan’s tour of Sparoza and Villy Loumaki’s overview of long-term climate trends recorded at the garden. The Sally Razelou Memorial Fund supports related educational work.
