她设计的”Romantic Suburban Garden”在 2016 年获 Houzz 平台”Best of Houzz 2016″设计奖,并被家居平台 Homify 刊出《A Towcester Family’s Spectacular Garden Makeover》一文做专题介绍;她的另一处”Small Modern Garden”于 2017 年被 Homify 拿来写《Before and After: This Bare Garden’s Stunning Makeover》(连德文版都译了);2019 年 9 月 Homify 再以《Big Ideas for Small Gardens》收录她这处花园。

Projects、How it Works、Costs and Testimonials、Why Use Us?、Links、Blog

About the Designer

Jane Harries is an independent British garden designer based in Northamptonshire. She qualified in garden design with the Open College of the Arts (OCA), the sister organisation of the Open University, completing two courses in the subject and earning a rarely-awarded A assessment for the second one. She has been gardening for fifteen years in her own cottage garden, likes to grow perennials from seed and also grows fruit, vegetables and watches the wildlife around her plot. Before garden design she worked in marketing and business design; a period of illness prompted the career change. Her assessor wrote that she “is particularly good at analysing the brief and relating it to the nature of the given site… the designs show a keen understanding of space and movement as well as a practical knowledge of materials.” Her site also showcases watercolour paintings, cards and prints for sale.

Service Model and Pricing

She runs a postal / email / phone garden design practice covering the whole of the UK, with face-to-face visits available for clients in South Northamptonshire. Standard deliverables are a scaled layout plan, an optional planting plan (with a colour-by-month calendar), and construction-detail drawings / specifications for the contractor. She also curates shared Pinterest mood boards so clients can collect ideas. Pricing is published: a layout plan for a garden up to 100 m² starts at £700, 100–250 m² costs £750, 250–500 m² costs £800, and gardens larger than 500 m² are quoted individually; complex sites carry a surcharge; planting plans are charged at £9/m² plus £80 with a £300 minimum. Payment is by BACS or cheque in advance, accompanied by standard terms and conditions.

Selected Projects and Media Coverage

She has been taking on commissions continuously since 2003; the public portfolio covers urban courtyards, hillside plots, long modern gardens, exotic shade planting, coastal retirement gardens and more. Her “Romantic Suburban Garden” won the Houzz “Best of Houzz 2016” Design award and was featured by Homify in “A Towcester Family’s Spectacular Garden Makeover” (2016). Her “Small Modern Garden” was the subject of Homify’s “Before and After: This Bare Garden’s Stunning Makeover” in August 2017 – also translated into German – and again in September 2019 in “Big Ideas for Small Gardens”. Mood-board and plant Pinterest boards are kept for each project so future clients can browse.

Design Philosophy and Industry Stance

Her stated approach is to work with the character of the site and its surroundings rather than to impose something out of context, and she favours gardens that emphasise nature whether urban or rural. Practical layouts often use curves and layered planting to make narrow gardens feel wider; the north-facing patio stays shaded if the client prefers it that way; structure and plant succession give the garden something to look at year round. In the past two years her blog has taken a public stand against artificial grass, citing the Society of Garden Designers leaflet on habitat loss, microplastics, flooding, urban heat islands and embodied carbon, and recommending traditional lawn, clover, chamomile and Pratia pedunculata as alternatives.

Visiting the Site, Testimonials and Contact

The website collects her practice in Projects, How it Works, Costs and Testimonials, Why Use Us?, Links and Blog; the homepage also shows her watercolour paintings, cards and prints for sale. Testimonials on the Costs and Testimonials page come from David U (Norfolk), Hedley and Alicia S. (Towcester), Lisa J (London) and Lisa B (Northants), focusing on communication, design fit and presentation detail. Routine contact is by email through the site’s “Contact Me” form; South Northamptonshire clients can book an in-person visit; everyone else follows the postal workflow – briefing form, photos and measurements, then a hand-drawn plan in the post.
