Family Heritage
Following growth in both the family and the business, the company relocated to Cumbria in 1980 and remained there for 32 years. After Douglas Bowden passed away in 2010, his wife Bridget and a loyal long-serving staff kept the business running until she decided the time was right to retire. The two daughters, Heather and Sally, who had grown up surrounded by seeds, took over the company. They later relocated Chiltern Seeds back south to the Chilterns, where they now operate from a converted barn near Wallingford in Oxfordshire.
Catalogue and Range
Today the company offers more than 2,500 seed varieties, ranging from popular annuals and hardy perennials to wildflower mixes, ornamental grasses, climbing plants, shrubs, trees, microgreens, edible flowers, and a wide selection of curious and exotic species. Every packet is hand-picked and packed into recycled packaging, with sowing guidance and approximate seed counts noted on the product pages for home gardeners.
Shows and Awards
Chiltern Seeds has exhibited regularly at the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Chelsea Flower Show and has received a five-star tradestand award in recent years.
