协会概况与起源
南非风景园林协会（Institute for Landscape Architecture in South Africa，缩写 ILASA）是代表南非风景园林行业的全国性志愿专业团体，前身为 1962 年成立的同名机构，1998 年重新组建，并以南非风景园林师协会的名义注册于南非风景园林专业委员会（SACLAP）；协会由秘书处代为运营，下设三个地区分会——西开普分会（ILASA Cape）、夸祖鲁-纳塔尔分会（ILASA KZN）和豪登省分会（ILASA Gauteng），是国际风景园林师联合会（IFLA）非洲区成员，并长期与南非造景协会等行业团体保持合作。
职能与行业使命
协会致力于推动风景园林行业在公共部门和私营部门的发展与需求，工作涵盖八个方向：提升行业尊严与能力、推动历史弱势群体赋能、通过教育促进专业能力进阶、支持可持续生态规划与管理、推动公众参与规划设计、推动同行评议卓越机制、增加行业对政府与社会的可见度，以及促进风景园林行业自身的认可；在 CPD 机制下，协会依据 SACLAP 持续专业发展政策第一节第六款，承担 Category 1 类验证课程的审核与活动组织，会员通过参会可在五年周期内累积 SACLAP 规定的 CPD 学分。
会员体系与同业网络
协会设六类个人会员资格——专业会员（年费 1,450 兰特）、副会员（1,445 兰特）、毕业生会员（1,360 兰特）、免费学生会员、免费终身会士会员和免费荣誉会员，会籍年度与南非财年相同，法人赞助商自动获得相应数量的个人会员名额；此外协会另设 23 家以上的法人会员单位，包括 Corobrik、SAOTA、Interdesign Landscape Architects、Just Trees、Terraplus、Tarna Klitzner Landscape Architects、Libra Landscape 等知名设计事务所与供应商，学生会员可申请 ILASA 奖学金，该奖学金自 2013 年成立以来已支持 31 位南非本地学生在四所 SACLAP 认可院校就读风景园林专业。
认可院校与教育合作
协会与比勒陀利亚大学、开普半岛科技大学、茨瓦尼科技大学和开普敦大学保持紧密合作，认可课程包括比勒陀利亚大学的风景园林学士（BSc LArch）、荣誉学士（BL Hons）和专业硕士（ML Prof），开普敦大学的专业硕士（ML Prof），以及开普半岛科技大学的风景园林技术国家文凭（ND）与技术学士（BTech）；协会通过奖学金资助、行业导师辅导和 CPD 课程衔接，为学生会员提供完整专业成长通道，毕业生在通过 SACLAP 注册考试后即可升级为专业会员。
年度活动与行业奖项
协会每年组织一次全国风景园林大会，2025 年 9 月 25 至 26 日，协会与 IFLA 非洲区在比勒陀利亚 CSIR 国际会议中心举办 2025 ILASA / IFLA Africa 联合大会；2023 年 10 月举办非洲风景园林节大会；2024 年 Corobrik-ILASA 卓越奖于 6 月 5 日颁发，2026 年颁奖典礼定于 9 月 10 日；三个地区分会亦定期组织区域性 CPD 工作坊、实地考察与会员交流活动，会员通过参与可在五年学分周期内累积 SACLAP 规定的持续专业发展积分。
About the Institute
The Institute for Landscape Architecture in South Africa (ILASA) is the national voluntary association representing landscape architects across South Africa. Originally founded as the Institute of Landscape Architects of South Africa in 1962, it was re-established in 1998 in its current form and is registered with the South African Council for the Landscape Architectural Profession (SACLAP) as a recognised Voluntary Association. ILASA operates through three regional bodies covering the country’s main centres of landscape practice: ILASA Cape (Western Cape), ILASA KZN (KwaZulu-Natal) and ILASA Gauteng. The Institute is a member of the International Federation of Landscape Architects (IFLA) through IFLA Africa and maintains working relations with peer South African plant builders and built-environment councils.
Mission and Goals
The Institute’s mission is to advance the profession of landscape architecture and the role this profession plays within the South African environment, both built and natural. Its work covers eight thematic goals: advancing the dignity and competence of the profession, uplifting previously disadvantaged societies, advancing professional competence through education, supporting sustainable ecological planning and management, supporting public involvement in planning and design, promoting excellence through peer review recognition, increasing the visibility of the profession to government and society, and promoting the landscape architecture profession itself. Under the SACLAP Continued Professional Development Policy (Category 1, Section 6), ILASA runs validated CPD activities that enable members to maintain their professional registration across a five-year credit accumulation cycle.
Membership Structure and Corporate Network
ILASA offers six individual membership categories: Professional Membership (R1,450 per year) for SACLAP-registered practitioners; Associate Membership (R1,445) for those committed to advancing landscape architecture; Graduate Membership (R1,360) for holders of recognised qualifications not yet professionally registered; free Student Membership for tertiary landscape architecture students; free Honorary Membership; and free Fellow Membership conferred by the National Executive Committee for outstanding service. The Institute also hosts a Corporate Membership programme with more than 23 corporate members including Corobrik, SAOTA, Interdesign Landscape Architects, Just Trees, Terraplus, Tarna Klitzner Landscape Architects, and Libra Landscape. The ILASA Bursary programme, established in 2013, has supported 31 South African students across multiple years of study at SACLAP-accredited institutions: the University of Cape Town, the University of Pretoria, Cape Peninsula University of Technology and Tshwane University of Technology.
Recognised Educational Programmes
ILASA recognises landscape architecture qualifications at four South African tertiary institutions. The University of Pretoria offers the BSc (Landscape Architecture), BL (Hons) and ML (Prof) programmes. The University of Cape Town offers the ML (Prof) programme. Cape Peninsula University of Technology offers the ND Landscape Technology and BTech Landscape Technology qualifications. Tshwane University of Technology also hosts students eligible for ILASA bursary support. The Institute links these educational pathways to professional practice through mentor matching, CPD credits and the bursary programme, creating a continuous route from student membership through graduate membership to SACLAP professional registration.
Annual Events and Awards of Excellence
ILASA hosts an annual national landscape architecture conference and the Corobrik-ILASA Awards of Excellence, South Africa’s premier annual recognition of outstanding achievement in landscape architecture. The 2025 ILASA / IFLA Africa Conference was held on 25-26 September 2025 in Pretoria at the CSIR International Conference Centre, with a hybrid physical and virtual format. The 2023 conference, the Festival of African Landscape Architecture, was held on 12-13 October 2023. The 2024 Corobrik-ILASA Awards were held on 5 June 2024, and the 2026 Awards of Excellence is scheduled for 10 September 2026. The three regional branches independently organise regional CPD workshops, site visits and networking events throughout the year. Members attend these events to accumulate Category 1 CPD credits and to engage with the broader South African landscape architecture community.
