Site Overview

Flavon’s Wild herb and Alpine plants (Flavon no Sanyasou to Kōzan Shokubutsu no Sekai) is a Chiba-based, personally run botanical reference site maintained by an enthusiast under the name Flavon since May 1, 1998. The Japanese-language archive combines plant-name lookup, cultivation Q&A, a cover-art gallery of the Tokyo Alpine Garden Society bulletin, and field photographs of rare species; by April 2010 the homepage counter had crossed 282,640 hits and cumulative page views were estimated at roughly 3.5 million.

APG III Classification System

The site’s art galleries adopted APG III in stages: the Sanyasou Art Gallery switched in September 2013 and the Himitsu no Hanazono in February 2014. Alongside these, the Dennō Shokubutsu Bunruuhyō (Syllabus of the Vascular Plants Online + Moss) exposes a genus-level index covering 5 divisions, 23 classes, 130 orders, 688 families and 28,904 genera, giving visitors a modern phylogenetic entry point to Japanese wild plants.

Cover Art of the Yamakusa Bulletin

The Tokyo Alpine Garden Society (Tokyo Sanyoukai) section hosts the Cover Picture gallery of the Yamakusa, with the most recent additions being Vol.63a Kirengeshoma palmata, Vol.63b Lilium leichtlinii, Vol.64a Calanthe izu-insularis (nioi-ebine) and Vol.64b Glaucidium palmatum (shirane-aoi). The companion seed-exchange list for 2021–2022 is mirrored on the Tokyo Sanyoukai no Heya page, complementing the printed bulletin as a public seed-list reference.

Arisaema Pages and Cultivation Q&A

A dedicated Arisaema (Tennanshō) room consolidates notes and field images for the genus, while the Sanyasou Shitsumon-bako answers recurring cultivation questions. Recent posts include a wild-garlic recipe (Nobiru no Sumiso-ae), reflecting the site’s mix of taxonomy, horticulture and everyday kitchen use.

Publications and Press Citations

Under the Flavon name, the operator contributed to several Seibido Shuppan field guides between 2000 and 2005 — including the 2002 Hazara-katachi / Hana-iro de Hikeru Ki no Namae ga Wakaru Jiten and Hana-iro de Hikeru Sanyasou / Kōzan Shokubutsu, and the 2005 Hana-iro de Hikeru Sanyasou no Namae ga Wakaru Jiten — and ran a Sanyasou wo Sodateru serial syndicated by Jiji Press and printed in regional newspapers including Ibaraki, Shizuoka and Mutsu, extending the site’s reference value beyond the Japanese web.
