Gardens to Visit、More Gardens to Visit、Your Garden here
Site Positioning and Founding Background
Ideas for Gardens is a Northern Ireland based personal garden photo and software hub aimed at plant lovers, plant collectors, and amateur gardeners. It was founded in the year two thousand and one by George Kelly and has been maintained continuously ever since. The site combines visitor contributed garden photographs from many countries with the Ideas Genie plant database software under one domain, functioning as both a picture library and a software download portal, and also hosts a forum, columns, and a visitable gardens index.
Garden Photographs and Visitor Submissions
Garden Photos is the most active section of the site. Photos are sorted by country and cover private gardens in England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Australia, Belgium, Canada, Spain, the United States and other regions. George Kelly’s own garden in Dromore, Northern Ireland has been documented in more than twenty rounds, from early spring of two thousand and nine to midsummer of two thousand and twenty four. Other recurring contributions include James Wharry’s heather garden in the Glens of Antrim, Karan Dimmock’s English style garden in Luton, and Mike Lazar’s city garden in Middlesex. Visitors can submit their own gardens via the Contribute Photos page.
Plant Database and Four Companion Software Titles
Ideas Genie Pro is the plant database software used by the site owner. Designed around home gardening needs, it can produce the same style of project presentations found in Garden Photos and lets visitors manage their own plant photos and lists. Flower Genie targets amateur gardeners with plant lookup and cultivation reminders. Bank Genie and Bank Genie Pro are personal finance tools developed by the same author and sold alongside the garden titles though unrelated to horticulture. All software runs on the Windows operating system.
Cultivars Column and Botanical Paintings
The Cultivars section spotlights individual cultivars, with recommendations, photographic images, and practical knowledge contributed by visitors. The Photo of the Week column archives a single standout plant photograph each season, for example the Argyranthemum “Jamaica Primrose” photographed in mid winter of two thousand and fourteen. The Garden Paintings subsection showcases a sample of paintings from an emerging botanical artist and is presented in portfolio form suitable for binding as a gift.
Forum, Society Links and Visit-able Gardens
The Plant Societies page compiles links to plant societies in different countries. The Forum is the main English language venue where the site owner and visitors discuss garden renovation, plant identification, and software use. Links by Category groups external resources by topic. Commercially, Gardens to Visit, More Gardens to Visit, and Your Garden Here provide three long term ad slots open to nurseries, garden centres, designers, and design software vendors. The site’s Facebook page is updated alongside the website on the same schedule.
