Daylily World is a specialty daylily nursery perched atop historic Abbots Hill in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky—about twenty minutes from the Lexington airport and roughly ninety minutes from both the Louisville and Cincinnati airports—within easy reach of the Kentucky Bourbon Trail, Keeneland Race Course, Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill and the Kentucky Horse Park. Founded in the mid-1960s by Ed Kirchhoff, who built on his grandfather’s legacy as a third-generation nurseryman in Sanford, Florida, the nursery is now in its seventh decade of offering award-winning daylilies. Ed’s son David Kirchhoff and his long-time hybridizing partner Mort Morss joined the work in the early 1970s; Mort passed away in 2023 and today the garden is maintained by David together with Elias Raymundo Montes, who has handled much of the day-to-day heavy lifting for the past fourteen years.
