历史沿革：从 1934 年园艺组到 2000 年三单位合并
西北农林科技大学园艺学院的前身可以追溯到 1934 年成立的国立西北农林专科学校园艺组，1936 年开始招收本科生，1961 年开始招收硕士研究生，1986 年开始招收博士研究生，2008 年开始接收留学生。2000 年，同处杨凌的西北农业大学园艺系、陕西省果树研究所、陕西省蔬菜花卉研究所三个单位合并组建为西北农林科技大学园艺学院。学院蔬菜、果树、设施农业科学与工程、观赏园艺、茶学 5 个教学系由此前的历史脉络整合而来，分别承担园艺学一级学科下属果树学、蔬菜学、观赏园艺学、茶学和设施园艺学方向的教学与科研工作，园艺学一级学科博士学位授权点和园艺学博士后流动站都设立在合并后的学院之下。
学科专业：园艺学一级学科与三个本科专业
园艺学院设有园艺学一级学科博士学位授权点，下设果树学、蔬菜学、观赏园艺学、茶学、设施园艺学 5 个二级学科博、硕士学位授权点，并设有园艺学博士后流动站。学科建设方面，果树学为国家级重点学科，果树学、蔬菜学、茶学同时为陕西省重点学科；学院另设有园艺植物种质资源学、葡萄与葡萄酒学、设施园艺工程 3 个自设博士、硕士学位授权点。学院开设园艺、设施农业科学与工程、茶学 3 个本科专业，其中园艺专业 2007 年获批国家级特色专业建设点，2019 年入选教育部 double first-class undergraduate programme 建设序列（即国家 double first-class 本科专业），设施农业科学与工程专业 2002 年在国内率先创建，茶学专业 2020 年获批为独立本科专业。
师资队伍：172 名教职工与国家级人才
园艺学院现有教职工 172 人，其中专任教师 139 人，实验技术与管理岗位人员合计约 33 人。专任教师中，正高级职称 53 人（含教授 44 人、研究员 6 人、推广研究员 3 人），副高级职称 68 人（含副教授 56 人、副研究员 7 人、推广副研究员 7 人、高级实验师 7 人），讲师及以下职称 30 人；博士生导师 61 人，硕士生导师 115 人。师资队伍中包含中国工程院院士 3 人（双聘）、”学术院长””讲席教授””客座教授”各 1 人，国家及省部级以上人才 40 余人次，包括”百千万人才工程”国家级人选、国家级教学名师、”国家杰出青年科学基金”获得者、”万人计划”科技创新领军人才、全国优秀科技工作者等；全院 45 岁以下专任教师全部具有博士学位。
科研平台与推广：1 个国家重点实验室与 20 个试验示范站
园艺学院设有 1 个国家级实验教学示范中心、1 个国家重点实验室、3 个国家研究中心、1 个国家种质资源圃、3 个省部级重点实验室、4 个省部级技术研究中心、2 个国际科技合作基地和 1 个省级学会，另有 3 个校级研究中心（所）和 20 个专业试验示范站。种质资源圃保存有柿、葡萄、苹果、猕猴桃、梨、桃、西瓜、大白菜、辣椒、番茄等 18 类园艺植物共 18000 多份资源材料，实验用地 900 余亩。自 2000 年合校以来，学院累计承担科研项目 2000 余项、推广项目 1000 余项，获省部级以上科研成果奖励 112 项，其中国家科技进步二等奖 3 项、省科学技术进步奖 25 项，育成新品种 334 个，发表 SCI、EI 收录论文 2431 篇，授权专利 379 项，出版专（编）著 148 部；近两年科研到位经费均超过 1 亿元。
国际合作与社会服务：1000 余人次讲学与试验示范网络
园艺学院与美、英、德、日、荷、加、澳、韩等 20 多个国家的高校和科研机构保持稳定的合作与交流关系：合校以来先后邀请国内外专家学者 1000 余人次来学院讲学或开展合作研究，730 多人次赴境外进行合作研究或学术交流；本科毕业生出国深造累计达 120 余人，研究生出国深造累计达 100 余人，培养来华留学生 40 余人。学院本科生与研究生培养规模合计在校生 2172 人（其中博士 298 人、硕士 882 人、本科 992 人），自合校以来累计培养博士 540 余人、硕士 3311 余人、本科 5000 余人，培训管理技术干部 3850 余人；毕业生中涌现出一批国家级科研骨干和省级农业产业带头人。学院依托 20 个专业试验示范站和 500 多个地方政府或龙头企业合作关系，把苹果、猕猴桃、茶叶、蔬菜等园艺新品种和栽培技术推广到西北、华北多个省份主产区。
History: From the 1934 Horticulture Group to the 2000 Merger
The College of Horticulture at Northwest A&F University traces its origins to the Horticulture Group established at the National Northwest Agricultural and Forestry College in 1934. The college began recruiting undergraduate students in 1936, master’s students in 1961, and doctoral students in 1986, and started accepting international students in 2008. In 2000, three institutions that were all based in Yangling—the Department of Horticulture of the former Northwest Agricultural University, the Shaanxi Institute of Pomology, and the Shaanxi Institute of Vegetables and Flowers—were merged into the present College of Horticulture. The five teaching departments—Pomology, Vegetable Science, Protected Horticultural Engineering and Science, Ornamental Horticulture, and Tea Science—bring together long-running horticulture, pomology, vegetable science, ornamental horticulture, and tea science research traditions that previously sat in separate institutions.
Disciplines and Programmes: A First-Level Doctoral Programme in Horticulture
The college offers a first-level doctoral degree programme in Horticultural Science, with five second-level doctoral and master’s programmes in Pomology, Vegetable Science, Ornamental Horticulture, Tea Science, and Protected Horticultural Engineering and Science, and a postdoctoral station in Horticultural Science. Pomology is designated as a national key discipline, while Pomology, Vegetable Science, and Tea Science are all Shaanxi provincial key disciplines; the college additionally maintains three self-established second-level doctoral and master’s programmes in Horticultural Plant Genetic Resources, Viticulture and Enology, and Protected Horticultural Engineering. The undergraduate catalogue covers three majors: Horticulture, Protected Horticultural Engineering and Science, and Tea Science. The Horticulture programme was named a national characteristic programme in 2007 and a national first-class undergraduate programme in 2019; the Protected Horticultural Engineering and Science programme was the first of its kind in China when it was created in 2002; the Tea Science major was approved as a stand-alone undergraduate programme in 2020.
Faculty: 172 Staff Members and National-Level Talent
The college has 172 faculty and staff members, of whom 139 are full-time teaching and research staff. The full-time staff includes 53 at senior academic ranks (44 professors, 6 researchers, and 3 extension researchers), 68 at associate ranks (56 associate professors, 7 associate researchers, 7 extension associate researchers, and 7 senior experimentalists), and around 30 at lecturer and below ranks; 61 are doctoral supervisors and 115 are master’s supervisors. The faculty list includes three adjunct academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, one “academic dean,” one “chair professor,” and one “guest professor,” and more than 40 individuals recognised under national or ministerial-level talent programmes, including “Ten-thousand Talents Programme” awardees, national-level master teachers, winners of the National Outstanding Youth Science Fund, “Ten-thousand Talents Programme” science and technology innovation leaders, and national outstanding scientific and technological workers; all full-time teaching staff under the age of 45 hold doctoral degrees.
Research Platforms and Extension: One State Key Lab and Twenty Demonstration Stations
The college hosts one national experimental teaching demonstration centre, one state key laboratory, three national research centres, one national germplasm resources nursery, three provincial key laboratories, four provincial technology research centres, two international science and technology cooperation bases, one provincial society, three university-based research institutions, and twenty professional experimental demonstration stations. The germplasm nursery preserves more than 18,000 accessions of persimmon, grape, apple, kiwifruit, pear, peach, watermelon, Chinese cabbage, pepper, tomato, and other horticultural crops, supported by more than 900 mu (60 hectares) of experimental land. Since the 2000 merger, the college has undertaken more than 2,000 research projects and 1,000 extension projects, won 112 science and technology awards at the provincial or ministerial level or above (including three second-class National Science and Technology Progress Awards and 25 provincial science and technology progress awards), released 334 new varieties, published 2,431 SCI/EI-indexed papers, been granted 379 patents, and published 148 monographs or edited volumes; in the past two years, annual research funding has exceeded 100 million yuan.
International Cooperation and Outreach: 1,000+ Visiting Scholars and a Demonstration Network
The college maintains long-standing collaborations with universities and research institutions in more than twenty countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Japan, the Netherlands, Canada, Australia, and South Korea. Since the 2000 merger, it has hosted more than 1,000 visiting scholars for lectures and joint research, sent more than 730 faculty members abroad for collaboration or academic exchange, and supported more than 120 undergraduates and 100 postgraduates in overseas study, along with 40 international students on campus. Current enrolment stands at 2,172 students (298 doctoral, 882 master’s, and 992 undergraduate), and since the merger the college has trained more than 540 doctoral graduates, 3,311 master’s graduates, 5,000 undergraduates, and 3,850 technical and managerial trainees; alumni include a number of nationally recognised researchers and provincial-level leaders in horticultural industries. Through its network of twenty professional experimental demonstration stations and more than 500 partnerships with local governments and leading enterprises, the college extends new apple, kiwifruit, tea, and vegetable varieties and cultivation technologies across major producing regions in northwest and north China.
