苗圃概况

About the Nursery

Wisconsin Roses is a very small home nursery run single-handedly by Steve Singer in southeastern Wisconsin, USA. The nursery has been in operation for more than 25 years and focuses on quality bare-root maiden roses grafted onto Rosa Multiflora root stock, supplying exhibitors and rose enthusiasts. Steve is also a hybridizer and has introduced several of his own varieties, primarily in the Hybrid Tea and Miniflora classes, many of them named after family members and friends. An update on the nursery site dated 12 September 2025 notes that Steve is cutting back severely due to lower back pain and age, so the fall 2025 and spring 2026 catalog will be very limited; custom budding and future hybridizing will continue subject to health and the availability of Canadian root stock.

The Fall 2025 – Spring 2026 catalog lists roughly 40 bare-root maiden varieties, including the HT pinks Andrea Stelzer (Kordes 1991) and April Hamer (Ron Bell 1983), the dark red Black Magic (Tantau), Camphill Glory (Harkness 1981), Clovie (Steven Roussell 2018), the Steve Singer-bred HT pink blend Kristen Singer, the HT pink blend Louise Estes (Joe Winchel), the new Miniflora Coral Sunrise (Swing Time x Headliner), Haley Victoria (David Clemons), Healthcare Hero (Steven Singer 2022), the deep fuchsia Hot Princess (Tantau Intl), the MF yellow blend RBG (Steven Singer 2021), the new HT red Rocket (Steven Roussell 2023), Ruby’s Daughters (Ray Guillebeau), Runway Star (Elizabeth Taylor x Buttercream), the shrub yellow blend Ruth Tiffany (Robert Martin), Ruthie’s Rose (Singer, named for the 97-year-old founding member of the Greater Milwaukee Rose Society), the HT orange pink Sandra (Kordes), Silverado (Christensen), the GR russet-lavender Stephen Rulo (Chaney 2008), Twice in a Blue Moon (Tantau 2004), Vernon Rickard (Fred Wright), White Princess (Don Johnson 2022) and Zach Nobles (Prabhu, Satish 2012). The Steve-bred Olivia Rose commemorates Sandy Hook victim Olivia Rose Engel, and the new RBG pays tribute to U.S. Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

Region and Climate

The nursery is located in southeastern Wisconsin in the USDA hardiness zone 4 to 5 belt, where severe winters put roses to a hard test. Steve emphasizes that every variety in the catalog has been trial-grown locally over multiple seasons, with several entries (Hot Princess, Louise Estes, Black Magic and others) flagged as particularly strong performers in SE WI. The Greater Milwaukee Rose Society is one of the local organizations the nursery keeps in touch with. Steve posts day-to-day updates on Instagram (@Stevesinger9) and has historically sourced Rosa Multiflora root stock from Canada; a Canadian budding-products supplier was lost in 2025 due to U.S. tariff policy.

Hybridizing and Naming Rights

Steve’s Hybridization Program has introduced several varieties to date, with more in the pipeline: Mr Rogers (Olivia Rose x Swing Time), Nadiya (Great Scott x Andrea Stelzer), Healthcare Hero, RBG, Runway Star (Elizabeth Taylor x Buttercream), Swing Time and others. Every new variety is trialed and evaluated for years before being registered and released. The nursery also offers a custom budding service for older varieties no longer commercially available or for propagating new seedlings, and a Rose Naming service that lets a customer name a rose after a special person, place or event; naming rights start at US $7,500.
