《JardinOscope》由法国摄影爱好者 Patrick Laforêt 于 2006 年 4 月 5 日在 CanalBlog 平台开通，最初名为 Le JardinOscope，意为「园丁多面观察」。创办者家族中祖父与母亲都是资深园丁，他退休前因工作繁忙无暇兼顾园艺，临近退休才下定决心把多年来积累的素材整理成一个长期连载的网络日志。二十年来博客持续更新，已累计发布近千篇文章，并衍生出面向种植技术的姊妹站《JardinOscope côté pratique》。

Blog History
JardinOscope was launched on 5 April 2006 by French photographer Patrick Laforêt on the CanalBlog platform. The name comes from the French “JardinOscope,” a name coined by the author to evoke a wide-angled view of the garden. Both his grandfather and his mother were keen gardeners, but a demanding career kept him away from horticulture until the years before retirement, when he finally set out to publish a long-running online journal of his field notes and photographs. Twenty years on, the blog remains active, has published close to a thousand articles, and has given rise to a sister site, Le JardinOscope côté pratique, dedicated to hands-on gardening.
Section Structure
The blog is organised into seven main sections. The plant kingdom pages collect wild and cultivated species found in parks and gardens, sorted A to Z with identification notes and cultivation tips. The animal kingdom section focuses on butterflies, birds and arachnids and is built around field photographs taken on the spot. ChampignOscope covers fungi, algae, lichens and mosses, while the mineral pages index rocks, minerals and fossils. The practical gardening column explains composting, pruning, propagation and pest management. Art and Culture gathers seasonal recipes, festivals, gardening bibliography and photographic essays. A closing section lists partner institutions, reader surveys and the year’s anniversary retrospectives.
Editorial Approach
Every article is written from the author’s own observation and experience. Plant identification pages use close-up photography paired with morphological descriptions and cultivation guidance; the animal section keeps species data alongside short behavioural notes; the practical gardening articles follow a monthly rhythm, each recommendation tagged with the climatic zone in which it applies. On pollinosis-related species such as mugwort and ragweed, the blog works with French bodies such as FREDON to relay pollen alerts and connects the daily weather data issued by Météo France with the phenology of common garden plants.
Reach and numbers
Since 2006 the main site has logged roughly 6.10 million visits and its sister site about 5.11 million; around 467 readers follow the blog by email. The author has published close to 1,500 articles between the two sites, covering everyday observations across the plant, animal, fungal and mineral sections, with weekly updates written and photographed by himself.
Collaborations
The author is a long-standing member of the Association des Amis d’André Eve, the memorial society that maintains the private garden of the late rosarian André Ève at Pithiviers, and regularly takes part in the spring and autumn plant-exchange fairs held by the Loire-Valley gardeners’ circle Les Jardingues. In 2026, French radio station AirZen produced a three-episode feature on the blog’s two decades of plant and insect documentation, helping to raise public awareness of the role small gardens play in urban biodiversity.
