ROOZENGAARDE & TULIPS is an integrated bulb growing, wholesale and retail nursery located in Washington’s Skagit Valley, continuously operated by the Dutch Roozen family since the 1700s and now run by the family-held Washington Bulb Co., Inc. — recognized as one of the largest bulb growers in the United States. The nursery operates three complementary lines: more than 50 acres of commercial tulip and daffodil fields, the 5-acre RoozenGaarde® display garden, and year-round overnight fresh-cut tulip delivery to all 50 U.S. states, alongside a spring bulb mail-order catalog serving home gardeners nationwide. The Tulips.com retail brand combines fresh-cut flower shipping, bulb retail catalog sales, the annual Skagit Valley Tulip Festival public display, and wedding flower booking, making the nursery a true three-in-one grower, retailer, and public garden destination.
Founding Heritage and Four Centuries of Dutch Roozen Family Bulb Growing
The brand name RoozenGaarde® translates from Dutch as Rose Garden, yet the family has cultivated tulips for generations, and the Roozen surname has become nearly synonymous with Skagit Valley tulip fields. The Roozen family began bulb farming in the Netherlands in the 1700s and later expanded operations to Washington’s Skagit Valley, where the mild maritime climate and rich valley topsoil give the bulbs a longer growing season and larger mature size than their Dutch counterparts. Today the nursery is operated by the family-held Washington Bulb Co., Inc., widely recognized as the largest bulb grower in the United States, and is hosting the 36th annual Skagit Valley Tulip Festival public display in 2026.
Cultivar Catalog and the Three-Line Fresh-Flower, Bulb Mail-Order and Wholesale Operation
The nursery runs three complementary product lines: the first covers more than 200 tulip varieties and 50 daffodil varieties in the field, plus muscari rivers, hyacinths and other specialty spring bulbs; the second covers year-round overnight delivery of fresh-cut tulips and daffodils to all 50 U.S. states, cut from the field and delivered to the customer’s front door by the next morning; the third covers the spring bulb mail-order catalog for home gardeners, accepting orders from February through December and shipping in October for cool zones, with delayed shipment and free pre-cooling for warm and hot zones shipped in November and December. The display garden is annually redesigned and replanted so each spring features an entirely new floral layout.
Multi-Generational Visitors and the Annual Skagit Valley Tulip Festival Public Garden
The RoozenGaarde® display garden and gift shop are open to the public year-round, with the bulk of visitors arriving during the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival held April 1 through April 30 each year — the garden sits about one hour north of Seattle, WA and one hour south of Vancouver, BC, drawing multi-generational families from across the U.S. and Canada. Admission is charged for the display garden, with free parking across the road and the admission ticket also covering parking at the flower fields. Outside the spring tulip and daffodil peak season the garden features smaller plantings of dahlias and zinnias through summer and fall, while the gift shop carries cut flowers, bulbs and gardening gifts.
Bulb Planting Guide and the 100 Percent Satisfaction Guarantee Service Commitment
All bulbs are topsize — larger and more mature than standard bulbs, producing bigger and more spectacular blooms — and are stored in climate-controlled environments through summer and fall before being shipped at the right planting time for each USDA zone. The order process asks for the customer’s zip code and automatically assigns the correct shipping window, with free delayed shipment and pre-cooling offered to warmer zones to simulate the winter chill their climates cannot naturally provide. Every bulb is hand-inspected and hand-packed in the Skagit Valley facilities, backed by a 100 percent satisfaction guarantee, and supported by a free annual printed bulb catalog available on request.
