创立背景与命名沿革

Whatcom 园艺协会（Whatcom Horticultural Society, WHS）1989 年在华盛顿州 Whatcom 县成立，最初名为 “Whatcom in Bloom Garden Society”，1990 年代后期为避免与 Whatcom 县公园部门主办的 Whatcom County in Bloom 家庭园艺竞赛混淆，更名为现名。组织注册地为贝灵汉（Bellingham），服务对象覆盖该县及邻近斯卡吉特、圣胡安等县的家庭园艺爱好者。

核心活动与会员项目

协会年度品牌活动 “Private Gardens Annual Tour” 自 1990 年起每年 6 月举办一天，由会员志愿接待，参观 4-6 个私家花园，2026 年举办第 36 届。2026 年配套活动包括 9 月 15 日 Bellingham 啤酒花园 Stemma Brewing 举办的 Members Meeting & Bouquets 工作坊，以及 9 月 24 日在 Whatcom Museum 礼堂举办的秋季讲师系列首场。

本地花园与公开资源

协会公开页面 “Links” 收录贝灵汉及华盛顿州西北部可参观的公共花园，包括 Bellevue Botanical Garden、Kubota Garden、Washington Park Arboretum、Big Rock Garden Park 与 UBC Botanical Garden、VanDusen Botanical Garden 等；同时列出当地 14 家苗圃和花园中心，以及西北花园俱乐部、Whatcom 县推广服务等社区园艺资源链接。

Founding and Renaming

The Whatcom Horticultural Society was organized in 1989 and originally known as the Whatcom in Bloom Garden Society. The name was later changed to avoid confusion with the Whatcom County Parks annual friendly garden competition called Whatcom County in Bloom. The society serves Whatcom County, Washington and welcomes novice gardeners, veterans, and visitors throughout the Pacific Northwest.

Annual Tour and Members Programs

The signature event is the Annual Tour of Private Gardens held each June since 1990, in which member gardens open to the public for a single day. The 36th edition took place on June 20, 2026. The society also hosts a Members Meeting in September, a Fall Lecture Series featuring Pacific Northwest designers and photographers, and publishes a quarterly newsletter with contributions from adult and high-school members.

Local Public Gardens and Resources

The society maintains a public links page cataloguing regional public gardens including Bellevue Botanical Garden, Big Rock Garden Park, Kubota Garden, Washington Park Arboretum, UBC Botanical Garden, and VanDusen Botanical Garden, alongside fourteen locally owned nurseries, the Whatcom County Extension office, and neighbouring horticultural societies. Members are encouraged to participate as volunteers in the summer tour.
