Overview
Red Butte Garden and Arboretum is a university-affiliated botanical garden in Salt Lake City, Utah, operated by the University of Utah. Spanning approximately 100 acres with over 3,000 species of plants and trees, it ranks among the largest botanical gardens in the Intermountain West. Visiting Information
The Garden is open year-round (closed Thanksgiving and December 24 through January 1), with summer hours extending to 9 pm, and Saturday hours from 7 am to 9 pm during May through August. Admission is reasonably priced, and University of Utah students, faculty, and staff enjoy free entry with valid identification. Half-price admission is available from December through February. The Garden features diverse themed gardens and natural areas, while its outdoor Amphitheatre hosts a popular Summer Concert Series attracting both locals and visitors. Red Butte Garden is a museum of living plants, with collections managed for horticultural merit, conservation value, and historical significance. Its plant collection types include: the Arboretum (shared with campus), Ecological collections featuring native Utah species, Ethnobotanic collections, Geographic collections, Research and Conservation collections including threatened and endangered species, and Taxonomic collections. The Garden maintains a notable Daffodil Display in the Four Seasons Garden, recognized as an official Daffodil Display Garden by the American Daffodil Society in 2013.
