Origins and Personal Scope

BONSAIWELT (Bonsaiwelt) is a privately run bonsai site maintained over many years by Stefan Brunnert, an amateur grower based in Dortmund, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany. Rather than acting as a commercial nursery or institutional brand, the site documents one gardener’s hands-on cultivation practice, with Fuchsien-Bonsai (fuchsia bonsai) as the central subject, and welcomes German-speaking readers who share an interest in this niche corner of the bonsai art.

Cultivation and Display of Fuchsien-Bonsai

Fuchsien-Bonsai combines traditional bonsai shaping with Fuchsia hybrids, a pairing rarely treated as a standalone discipline. BONSAIWELT’s Allgemeines zum Thema Bonsai section explains the Japanese origin of the word Penzai (Bon = tree or landscape, Sai = shallow pot), outlines the centuries-old Japanese tradition of cultivating and passing bonsai across generations, and shares the author’s own daily routine: pruning, watering, fertilising, and routine checks. The author stresses that the most common mistake is not aggressive shaping but inconsistent watering and feeding, and recommends steady small daily attention over occasional heavy sessions.

Own Fuchsia Crosses and Naming Stories

The Meine Züchtungen section introduces three named Fuchsia hybrids that originated in the author’s own breeding work. Alina-Sophie and Team Telekom both trace back to a 1995 sowing with Uncle Charly as seed parent and Ambasserdor as pollen parent; Team Telekom was selected as a medium-sized, well-branching double form with delicate pink-white sepals. Erik was named in June 2005 at the Heinke nursery in Dortmund-Lichtendorf, descended from Zyzy, and combines an upright habit with robust, free-flowering performance. The name Erik honours both the author’s son and the German road-racing cyclist Erik Zabel.

German Garden Shows and Competition Record

BONSAIWELT chronicles Stefan Brunnert’s long-running participation in German Bundesgartenschauen (Buga) and the international Gartenschauen (IGA). Recorded visits include Magdeburg 1999, Kaiserslautern 2000, Potsdam 2001, München 2005, Koblenz 2011, Hamburg 2013, Berlin 2017, and Heilbronn 2019. At the IGA 2017 in Berlin the author exhibited in the Blumenhalle and received 15 Goldmedaillen together with the Ehrenpreis, while at Buga Heilbronn 2019 the Fuchsien-Bonsai were part of a themed Fuchsia exhibition titled Ein Fuchs muss tun was ein Fuchs tun muss, with detailed photo impressions preserved on the site.

Horticultural Culture and Reader Contact

The Tipps und Anleitungen section gathers practical cultivation notes aimed at beginners and curious readers alike. The author invites enquiries about purchasing, training, and day-to-day care of bonsai through the contact channel listed in the site’s Impressum, and explicitly notes that all images, texts, and technical details on BONSAIWELT are provided as non-binding information. The site is recognised as part of the broader Arbeitsgemeinschaft O&A network of German-language bonsai resources, and its archive of exhibition reports remains a useful reference for collectors interested in Fuchsien-Bonsai.
