DaffTube (the Daffodil Presentation Site) is the international daffodil multimedia showcase platform maintained by the American Daffodil Society (ADS). It aggregates more than one hundred PDF slide programs, downloadable and streamable videos and audio interviews covering daffodil classification, hybridising, growing, exhibiting and judging, and is widely used as a free multimedia reference by daffodil enthusiasts, garden clubs, academic lectures and judging schools worldwide.
Project Background and Platform Positioning
DaffTube is operated by the American Daffodil Society (ADS), a 501(c)(3) non-profit educational organisation founded in 1954, and is one of five specialised daffodil sites maintained by the Society. Together with the main site daffodilusa.org, the DaffNet discussion forum, the DaffLibrary digital library and the DaffSeek cultivar database, DaffTube forms part of the Society’s integrated daffodil education and outreach network. The platform’s core mission is to provide free access to daffodil-related presentations, including PDF slide programs, downloadable and streamable videos and audio interviews, serving audiences from general garden enthusiasts to professional hybridisers, exhibition judges and species specialists. The servers are hosted in a commercial data centre in the United States, and the Society commits to long-term free access and operation through membership fees, donations (including significant annual support from Wholesale Flowerbulbs) and volunteer contributions.

Programmes on DaffTube are organised into five primary subject areas: Daffodil Types, Hybridising, Growing, Exhibiting & Judging, and Shows & Events. Most video programmes are made available in 1280×720 standard and 1920×1080 high-definition MP4 formats, with some additionally provided in WebM, M4V or Apple HLS adaptive streaming to accommodate different devices; large video files are distributed through Dropbox with a combined daily traffic cap of 20 GB. Programme topics span cultivar classification, hybridising theory, growing techniques, exhibition judging and historical archives, presented by renowned daffodil experts from New Zealand, Australia, the United Kingdom and the United States. After programmes are organised by subject, the ADS web team handles upload, ongoing maintenance and playback compatibility testing to ensure a consistent experience across desktop, tablet and mobile devices. The platform also publishes a detailed video FAQ, technical support notes and download guidance for iOS and Android devices, helping users solve download and playback issues across different browsers and mobile applications.
