Weijers 的老板——装进一家新公司,起名 Tuberbulb Export BV,副题写着 all over the world。

An Export Division of Its Own

The name carries an old account with it. Tuberbulb Export B.V. was set up in 1990, the year Koninklijke Van Tubergen BV decided to end its export work and concentrate on the consumer market. The export division passed to Jan Boot, then director and owner of C.S. Weijers, who put it into a new company called Tuberbulb Export BV, with all over the world as its motto. The name itself is a compound: Van Tubergen is where the business came from, while tuber and bulb refer to what it trades.

The head office sits in Hillegom, in the bulb district between Leiden and Haarlem in the province of South Holland. Two sister companies share the CSW Group with it: QFB Gardening, which sells straight to consumers through its own web shops, and CSW Landscaping, which supplies bulbs to landscapers and municipal green services and carries out mechanical planting in public space.

Two Acquisitions

In 2010 the company took over the flower bulb trading business of Walter Blom BV, which lifted its share of the Japanese market. Over the years that followed it built out its trade in Canada, China, South Korea, Thailand, New Zealand, Argentina, Costa Rica and Chile, with Asia and North America remaining the main markets. In November 2013 the Dutch prime minister Mark Rutte visited the flower bulb region and called in at the company in Hillegom as well.

The most recent deal was announced on 2 November 2025: from the 2026 crop onwards the company takes over the summer bulb trade of Van Zanten Flowerbulbs. That 164-year-old firm is leaving the bulb business, its experienced team comes along, and so does the know-how on tulip forcing. Managing director John Boot calls it the best of two worlds. Earlier the same year Van Zanten sold its lily breeding division to Hobaho in Lisse, while the lily trade and the New Zealand nursery went to Onings Holland Flowerbulbs in Poeldijk.

The Range and the Catalogues

The catalogue page splits the range into more than a hundred and fifty groups, running alphabetically from A to Z. Common genera include tulips, narcissus, hyacinths, gladioli, crocuses, fritillaries, amaryllis, dahlias, daylilies and irises, with a large perennial range on top. The company is not consistent about its own numbers: the home page and the catalogue text speak of more than ten thousand cultivars, the catalogue heading says two thousand and the English company page says three thousand.

The catalogue comes in an autumn edition for the varieties that flower in spring and a spring edition for those that flower in summer; the site says customers receive a full catalogue every two years. Besides the botanical names they give the Dutch common names and list flowering period, plant height, bulb size and pictures. Customers are spread over more than twenty-five countries, wholesalers and retailers as well as firms working on parks and public greenery. Packing, delivery date, choice of varieties and shipping method are arranged around what the customer wants, and where a variety is not in the catalogue the company offers to track it down.

Inspection and Paperwork Before Shipment

The export side is described in detail. Bulbs and perennials are often required to travel completely soil free, the goods are washed before they go, and independent bodies such as the Bloembollenkeuringsdienst (BKD) or NAK Tuinbouw inspect them; only after approval do they get the official phytosanitary certificate needed for international shipping. Some destination countries also want an import permit, which the company applies for and submits to the Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA).

The company also develops new varieties, visiting growers and breeders each year to look at new stock and testing it before deciding what to put on the market. A good number of the exclusive varieties are available only through Tuberbulb Export.

The CSW Group, Certification and Solar on the Roof

The company has its own show garden at Keukenhof and, together with QFB Gardening, runs two sales points on the grounds. On certification it holds MPS-Florimark Good Trade Practice, which is about trading in a way that is accountable to people and to the environment; in the trade bodies it belongs to Anthos and EVO-FENEDEX.

The sustainability page is specific: in 2018 and 2021 the company put up 2,400 Solarwatt glass-glass solar panels between them, producing some 460,000 kWh a year, which comes to about what the company forecasts it will use; nearly all conventional lighting was replaced with LED and the energy label is A. On staff the sector scheme for older workers applies, 20 per cent less work for 90 per cent of the salary, so that the knowledge stays in the company; the company also takes part in the Green Unplugged project of Groen Onderwijscentrum, which introduces schoolchildren to growing flowers.
