协会沿革
欧洲竹子协会 European Bamboo Society 于 1987 年在巴黎由各国竹类爱好者与专家倡议成立, 旨在推动竹在欧洲的栽培、引种与研究. 翌年 1988 年, 德国分会 EBS Deutschland 正式组建, 早期以同好交流为主. 1998 年, 德国分会在威斯巴登地方法院注册为正式社团 (e.V.), 注册号 VR 4153, 注册地为 Hochheim am Main, 章程确立其非营利与公益性质, 日常业务由理事会与全职秘书处共同推进.
宗旨与活动
协会宗旨是促进竹类在德国的栽培与知识普及, 同时与国际同行交流竹作为观赏植物与经济作物的双重价值. 主要活动包括: 自 2004 年起每年由会员投票评选 “Bambus des Jahres” (年度竹) 以推介适宜中欧栽培的竹种, 历年当选种涵盖 Fargesia、Phyllostachys、Chimonobambusa、Borinda 等多个属; 每年组织多次 “Bambus- und Gartenreisen” (竹与花园旅行) 走访欧洲知名竹园与园林, 2001 年至 2018 年间足迹遍及荷兰、英国、苏格兰、爱尔兰、匈牙利、布列塔尼、意大利湖区、法国南部等地; 协会还就微繁殖竹苗的栽培适应性发表过正式立场 (Stellungnahme), 引导会员理性选择种源.
期刊与文献
协会出版物最早可追溯至 1989 年的内部小册子 Bambusbrief, 当时为黑白单色 A5 简讯. 如今已发展为 A4 开本、配彩色照片的 Bambus-Journal 杂志, 每年出版三期, 内容覆盖竹类引种、栽培、病虫害防治、园林应用与协会动态, 是德语地区竹类爱好与栽培领域最系统的连续出版物. 1989 至 1999 年的 Bambusbrief 与 2000 至 2012 年的 Bambus-Journal 均有完整电子档案, 仅供会员在线查阅.
会员与组织
协会采取个人与家庭双轨入会制, 章程明确为公益性社团, 经费仅用于协会宗旨相关事务, 不得用于其他分配. 全国划分为 Nord、West、Ost、Mitte、Süd 五个区域组 (Regionalgruppen), 由五位地区联络人协调本地活动与会员交流; 协会还设有名誉会员制度, 以表彰对协会或竹类推广作出突出贡献的个人与机构. 现任理事会 (who is who) 包括 1. 数据库与学术
协会维护一座持续扩充的 Bambusdatenbank 竹类数据库, 收录大量竹种与品种的形态、习性、耐寒与园林用途信息, 会员可在其中登记自己的栽培记录并选择是否对其他会员或访客公开, 实现个人收藏的数字化管理. 学术方面, 协会网站长期连载法国学者 Jacques Chaplain 关于 Jean Houzeau de Lehaie (竹引入欧洲的先驱) 的系列研究文章, 涵盖其田野考察、分类贡献与对欧洲竹类栽培的影响, 由多位译者分别译成德文介绍给德语读者.
History
The European Bamboo Society was founded in Paris in 1987 by bamboo enthusiasts and specialists from across the continent, with the aim of promoting the cultivation, introduction and study of bamboo in Europe. The German section, EBS Deutschland, was established the following year in 1988. In 1998 the German section was registered as a formal association (eingetragener Verein, e.V.) at the local court of Wiesbaden under register number VR 4153, with the registered seat in Hochheim am Main. Its bylaws (Vereinssatzung) confirm its exclusively non-profit, charitable purpose and establish the governance by a board and a full-time secretariat.
Mission and Activities
The association’s purpose is to advance the knowledge and cultivation of bamboo in Germany and to share experience with international partners on its ornamental and economic value. Its principal activities include an annual “Bambus des Jahres” (Bamboo of the Year) election by members since 2004, with past winners covering genera such as Fargesia, Phyllostachys, Chimonobambusa and Borinda; regular “Bambus- und Gartenreisen” (bamboo and garden tours) to European bamboo gardens between 2001 and 2018, including the Netherlands, Britain, Scotland, Ireland, Hungary, Brittany, the Italian Lakes and southern France; and a published Stellungnahme (position paper) on the garden suitability of micropropagated bamboo.
Publications
The association’s serial publication began in 1989 as Bambusbrief, a simple A5 newsletter without photographs. It has since grown into Bambus-Journal, an A4 magazine with colour photography, published three times a year. It is the most systematic continuing German-language publication on bamboo cultivation and covers introductions, cultivation, pest control, garden use and society news. The complete Bambusbrief archives 1989–1999 and the Bambus-Journal archives 2000–2012 are available online for members.
Membership and Organisation
The society admits both individual and joint household memberships and is structured as a registered non-profit. Members include hobbyists, botanically interested amateurs, gardeners, trade specialists and scientists. Germany is divided into five Regionalgruppen (Nord, West, Ost, Mitte and Süd), each with a local contact person, to facilitate short-notice regional exchange; the association also maintains an honorary membership programme. The current board (who is who) comprises 1. Vorsitzender Jürgen Schmitz, 2. Vorsitzender Dr. Steffen Greiner, Geschäftsführerin Ute Außem, board member and Bambus-Journal editor-in-chief Renate Lohmer, and board members Dr. Gunther Lohmer and Christian Wach.
Database and Research
The association maintains an expanding Bambusdatenbank (bamboo database) of species and cultivars with morphological, ecological, hardiness and horticultural data. Members may record their own bamboo collections, choose whether to share their records with other members or the public, and benefit from per-species change histories. The website also hosts a long-running research series by French scholar Jacques Chaplain on Jean Houzeau de Lehaie, the pioneer who introduced bamboo to Europe, including his field exploration, his taxonomic contributions and his influence on European bamboo cultivation, presented in German translation.
