公司起源与发展
英国波士顿种子公司 Boston Seeds 是一家独立的种子商，由安德鲁·瓦利斯（Andrew Wallis）于 2002 年在英国创立。在此之前，安德鲁曾在欧洲一些领先的种子公司工作了 25 年，积累了草籽、草坪草与野花种子领域的产品和供应链经验。公司 2003 年开始在互联网上销售种子，是最早一批在网络上出售草种、草坪种子和野花种子的英国公司之一。

公司 2008 年自建配送中心，2010 年购置试验田用于产品研发与品种试验。位于林肯郡乡村的研发中心占地约七英亩，所有产品都先在研发中心进行试验和评估，再进入商品目录。2021 年公司扩建办公与配送设施，新增面积约 25,000 平方英尺的仓库与温控专区，专门用于野花种子和特种种子的储存。草籽的生产和销售受英国环境、食品与农村事务部（DEFRA）监管，已按其法规完成相关认证，保证纯度与发芽率两项关键指标。
管理团队与近期发展
2022 年 3 月 1 日是公司成立 20 周年纪念日，当天公司宣布由乔治·瓦利斯（George Wallis）接任董事总经理。乔治于 2013 年加入公司，此前在快速消费品行业有多年从业经历，加入后先后在公司商业岗位上任职，最近年担任商务总监。在他的带领下，公司继续走独立经营路线，进一步加大对草籽与野花种子两条主线的投入。

Company Origins and Development
Boston Seeds is an independent UK seed merchant founded in 2002 by Andrew Wallis. Before that, Andrew had spent 25 years working at several leading European seed companies, building expertise in grass seed, lawn seed and wildflower varieties. The firm began selling seed online in 2003 and was one of the very first UK companies to offer grass seed, lawn seed and wildflower seed over the internet.
Product Range and Core Lines
The company specialises in grass seed, lawn seed and native British wildflower seed, and also stocks flower bulbs, lawn and paddock fertilisers, weedkillers and grass seed spreaders. Customers range from home gardeners and landscapers to sports clubs, local councils, equine keepers and farmers. Each year about 1,000 hectares of seed crops are produced in the UK, with additional production through partners in Germany and the Czech Republic. Boston Seeds is now the largest online seller in the UK of grass seed, lawn seed and native British wildflower seed, and has served more than 200,000 customers since its founding.
Distribution, Trials and Quality
The firm set up its own distribution centre in 2008 and bought trials land in 2010 for product development. Its seven-acre Research and Development Centre sits in the Lincolnshire countryside, where every product is trialled before going on sale. In 2021 the company expanded offices and warehousing, adding a 25,000 sq ft warehouse and a temperature-controlled store dedicated to wildflower and other specialist seeds. Grass seed production and sales are regulated by DEFRA, the UK Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, and products are certified against its purity and germination standards.
Leadership and Recent Milestones
On 1 March 2022, marking the company’s 20th anniversary, Boston Seeds announced the appointment of George Wallis as its new Managing Director. George joined the business in 2013 after a career in FMCG, and has since served in several commercial roles, most recently as Commercial Director. Under his leadership the company continues to operate as an independent seed house and has kept investing in its two main lines of grass seed and wildflower seed.
Charity and Community Work
Between 2022 and 2025 the firm contributed to a broad range of causes, including Marie Curie, the Gillead Foundation, Buglife, Boston in Bloom, Boston Marathon UK, Addaction Boston, Butterfly Hospice Boston, Lincolnshire Road Victims Trust, Save the Children and John Fielding Community Special School. Each Christmas the team donates chocolate selection boxes to the Boston Foodbank, and more recently has also donated pallets of nappies and baby wipes to the Ukraine Disaster Emergency Fund.
