World Urban Parks

(International Federation of Parks and Recreation Administration,简称 IFPRA)基础上改组而来。

About the Organisation

World Urban Parks (WUP) is the international representative body for the urban parks, open space and recreation sector. Its membership spans national associations, park authorities, NGOs, universities, research institutes, businesses, community groups and individuals across parks, green city, conservation, recreation, sport and health. The organisation adopted its constitution in April 2015 and began operating as a successor to the former International Federation of Parks and Recreation Administration.

Origins

WUP grew out of a strategic review of IFPRA conducted in 2013 by Parks For Life, an alliance of national park and recreation associations. The General Assembly of October 2013 endorsed the creation of a new urban-focused body, a task force was formed in 2014, the constitution was adopted later that year, and the new entity was registered in New Zealand on 23 February 2015. In a name preference vote among members, 81.5 percent chose World Urban Parks as the title of the new organisation.

Vision and Mission

The vision is a world where people value and have easy access to quality urban parks, open space and recreation. The mission is to promote and support the provision, effective management and use of urban parks, open space and recreation worldwide as an integral contribution to healthy communities connected to the natural world. Strategic objectives cover four areas: well-managed parks and open spaces improving urban life; economic, environmental, cultural and social benefits of parks widely recognised; people networks supported by quality information and training; and WUP recognised as the global unified voice for the sector.

Key Programmes

The signature programmes of World Urban Parks align with its strategic priorities. The World Parks Academy works to unify national certification systems by providing the first international competency-based accreditation for parks and recreation professionals. The Large Urban Parks Committee, established after the 2015 Stockholm Large Parks in Large Cities Conference, brings together practitioners from major metropolitan parks. Awards such as the Distinguished Individual Award recognise sustained contributions; the inaugural 2015 award went to Dr Christy Boylan of Ireland at the Ponte de Lima Congress. Bimonthly themes include climate change, healthy parks healthy people, equity and democracy, ageing populations, transportation and economic development.

Governance and Membership

WUP is constituted as a non-governmental, non-profit membership-based peak body, with Full (voting) and Associate (non-voting) memberships open to organisations and individuals. Governance rests with Full Members at Annual General Meetings, who elect a Board reflecting membership categories, regions and skills. The Executive Committee, comprising a Chairperson, Vice Chairperson and one other director, oversees strategy and the CEO. The Secretariat moved from the United Kingdom to Wellington, New Zealand in 2015. Initial regions covered Europe, Asia-Pacific and the Americas, later joined by Africa-Middle East.
