新会员入会即赠 Classified Directory(推荐品种分类目录)以及 Ted Collins 著《Dahlias for You》。

History and Purpose
The National Dahlia Society (NDS) was formed in 1881, making it one of the longest-established all-dahlia societies in the world. Operating as a registered charity (Registered Charity No: 254049), the society promotes dahlia cultivation through exhibitions, trials and conferences, with its two main annual shows held at RHS Wisley and the Great Yorkshire Showground in Harrogate, both offering reduced admission for members.
Member Services and Publications
Members receive two publications each year: the Winter Bulletin and the summer Dahlia Annual, which cover cultivation, trials, shows and cultivar selection. New members are sent a complimentary Classified Directory of recommended cultivars together with a copy of Ted Collins’ book ‘Dahlias for You’. The society also runs an information service that puts members in touch with regional representatives in Wales, Scotland and Ireland.
Dahlia Classification and Cultivar Research
The society publishes a comprehensive classification of dahlia types covering Single, Anemone, Collerette, Waterlily, Decorative, Ball, Pompom, Cactus, Semi-cactus, Stellar and other groups, with each group defined by floret shape and arrangement. The flower originated in Mexico: Dahlia pinnata, Dahlia rosea and Dahlia coccinea were the first named species introduced to Europe, with double Show and Fancy forms appearing in the mid-1800s, followed by Anemone forms in 1829, Pompons in 1850, and the Cactus and Decorative types after the arrival of ‘Juarrezii’ in Holland in 1872.
National Shows and Judging System
Conferences are held annually around the country in March, and judging examinations are run by the society to maintain its list of qualified judges. The NDS National Show at Wisley and the Northern Show at Harrogate are open to affiliated societies and independent exhibitors, with the Classified Directory serving as the official reference for judging and cultivar registration.
Affiliated Societies and External Links
The NDS links with dahlia societies across the UK and abroad. Affiliated societies may enter inter-society classes at the National Shows and award NDS medals at their own events, and are listed in NDS publications. New members can apply through the ‘How to Join’ page on the official website and choose an individual or family membership plan.
