分会基础与覆盖范围
加州原产植物协会北海岸分会是 CNPS 在加州北部的 33 个本地分会之一, 覆盖 Humboldt、Del Norte、Siskiyou 西、Trinity 西四县, 活动以 Arcata 镇为中心。所有会务与对外联络均通过主网站联系页面进行, 全部工作由志愿者承担, 不设专职办公室。
五项常规活动
分会的年度公开活动包括: 9 月到次年 5 月每月第二个星期三晚的 Evening Program 免费讲座; 春野花展 Wildflower Show 在 Eureka 杰斐逊社区中心举行为期三天, 兼设 Art Night、植物鉴定、Yurok 与 Wiyot 原住民传统植物文化分享; 五月与九月两届原生苗圃植物特卖; Cal Poly Humboldt 与 College of the Redwoods 本科生与研究生可申请的本土植物研究资助; 全年野外考察、植物咨询与季度会刊《Darlingtonia》编辑出版。
原生苗圃与示范花园
分会自办原生植物苗圃位于 Freshwater Farms Reserve 内, 每周三、五、日上午 10 点到下午 1 点向志愿者开放, 苗圃一角设有示范花园展示家庭尺度种植效果, 库存高峰期在 5 月与 9 月两次特卖。育苗、繁殖、维护活种子库的各项工作均由志愿者承担。
保育倡导与生态恢复
分会持续参与加州本土植物保育议题, 包括 Horse Mountain Botanical Area 蛇纹岩植被保护、六河国家森林 Dingell Act 公共意见倡导、入侵植物清除志愿行动。分会与 Friends of the Dunes、Friends of Arcata Marsh、Humboldt Baykeeper 保持协作, 同时是 Northcoast Environmental Center 成员组织, 在该理事会保有席位。
学生项目与教育延伸
分会每年向 Cal Poly Humboldt 与 College of the Redwoods 的学生提供本土植物研究资助, 课题聚焦四县本土植物与栖息地, 申请截止 3 月 15 日, 资助额度详见分会主网站学生项目页。分会维护 YouTube 频道 See Wild Native Plants、推荐野外图鉴, 并通过免费讲座、野外考察、植物咨询、苗圃开放日把本土植物知识传递给非会员公众。
Chapter Profile and Geographic Coverage
The North Coast Chapter is one of CNPS’s 33 local chapters, covering Humboldt, Del Norte, western Siskiyou, and western Trinity counties in far northern California. Activities are centered in Arcata; all chapter correspondence is handled through the contact page on the website, and everything the chapter does is volunteer-powered with no paid office.
Five Recurring Public Programs
Annual public activities include free Evening Programs on the second Wednesday of each month from September through May, held at the D Street Neighborhood Center in Arcata and on Zoom; the spring Wildflower Show at Jefferson Community Center in Eureka with plant identification tables, Yurok and Wiyot cultural plant talks, and children’s art activities; two native plant sales each year in May and September; student research grants for undergraduate and graduate students at Cal Poly Humboldt and College of the Redwoods; and year-round field trips, native plant consultations, and the quarterly newsletter Darlingtonia.
Native Plant Nursery and Demonstration Garden
The chapter runs its own native plant nursery at Freshwater Farms Reserve, open to volunteers Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. A corner of the nursery hosts a demonstration garden showing what homeowners can accomplish on a small suburban lot. Inventory peaks during the May and September sales; cash and check are preferred.
Conservation Advocacy and Restoration
The chapter is active on California native plant conservation issues, including the serpentine vegetation of Horse Mountain Botanical Area, public comment under the Dingell Act on Six Rivers National Forest management, and volunteer invasive plant removal. It works alongside Friends of the Dunes, Friends of Arcata Marsh, and Humboldt Baykeeper, and holds a board seat as a member organization of the Northcoast Environmental Center.
Student Grants and Education Outreach
The chapter awards annual research grants to students at Cal Poly Humboldt and College of the Redwoods for work on native plants and habitats in the four-county area, with applications due by March 15 and award amounts posted on the chapter website. It maintains a YouTube channel, See Wild Native Plants, recommends field guides, and reaches non-members through free lectures, field trips, plant consultations, and open nursery days.
