**Beyond Pesticides**
Founded in 1981, Beyond Pesticides is one of the oldest pesticide advocacy organizations in the United States. The organization works to eliminate the health and environmental hazards of pesticides by advancing organic practices and alternatives.
**Mission and Goals**
Beyond Pesticides believes that organic agriculture, properly understood and implemented, is the ecological solution to modern food production. In the face of climate disruption, ecosystem degradation, water contamination, obesity and diet-related disease, and the loss of biodiversity, organic systems can address all of these problems at once — conserving energy, protecting soil and water resources, sequestering carbon, promoting biodiversity, and providing a foundation for rebuilding regional food systems that are healthy for people and the environment.
**Leadership**
Executive Director Jay Feldman has led the organization since 1981, holding a master’s degree in urban and regional planning with a focus on health policy from Virginia Tech. In 2009, he was appointed by the USDA Secretary to the National Organic Standards Board (NOSB) for a 5-year term. Director of Operations Jocelyn Cordell joined in October 2022, bringing interdisciplinary experience in public policy and international affairs.
