English Introduction

The Canadian Compost Council (CCC) is the national industry organization for compost and organics recycling in Canada. Affiliated with the Canadian Organics Management Association, the council promotes scientifically sound compost production and its wide application through standards development, public education and policy advocacy.

Mission

The CCC’s mission is to reduce landfill waste, improve soil health and promote sustainable agriculture by advancing compost and organics recycling. The council works with provincial governments, environmental agencies, agricultural organizations and communities across Canada to promote compost applications in agriculture, horticulture, reforestation and urban greening.

International Compost Awareness Week (ICAW)

The council organizes the International Compost Awareness Week (ICAW) annually — the world’s largest compost promotion event. ICAW 2026 will take place May 3-9 under the theme “Composting for a Greener Planet.” During the week, over 200 events will be held across Canadian provinces, including workshops, school programs, community displays and webinars.

Training and Certification

The CCC provides specialized training courses in compost production and quality control, helping practitioners master key technical aspects. The council also publishes industry guides and technical resources, and issues regular member newsletters with industry updates and policy news.
