Specialist Paeony Propagators and Root Producers

Welcome to Simmons Paeonies.

Thank you for looking up our site. As we are heading for retirement, we are not sure when we again will be offering our paeonies for sale. In 2025 we offered 16 new varieties which we lifted, divided and sold in our autumn (April to May). We are not offering any plants for sale at the moment, but we may offer some for sale in autumn 2026. If we do sell some next year, we will be announcing it on this website, probably in the new year. In the meantime, the 2025 photos are still on the website for reference purposes only.

 

Paul & Esther Simmons have been running a peony nursery since 1986. We are located on the outskirts of Christchurch, the main city of the South Island of New Zealand. Like all good business stories we started small, with 100 plants imported from USA. We propagated all types of peonies including tree peonies, both for the garden market and commercial cut flower growers.

 

We have been specialist root producers i.e. propagators of peonies. Although we do cut some flowers this is a minor part of the business

 

In 2011 we started to propagate a large number of varieties of tree peonies but we sold that side of the business in 2023. The photos of the tree peonies have been retained purely for interest’s sake and as a reference.

 

As well as selling locally, for many years we have sold peonies to overseas customers in countries including USA, Canada, Eastern and Western Europe.
