集团总部位于丹麦 Djursland 半岛, 除丹麦 Pindstrup、Kongerslev、Nørhalne 等地的生产基地外, 1979 年在北爱尔兰 Magherafelt 设立全资子公司 Bulrush Horticulture Ltd, 1989 年通过收购西班牙布尔戈斯省一家泥炭公司设立 Pindstrup Mosebrug S.A.E, 1990 年代初期与爱沙尼亚一家泥炭公司在 Viljandi 合资设立 Estonian Peat Products, 1998 年在拉脱维亚 Balozi 设立 SIA Pindstrup Latvia, 2021 年又收购巴西的 Carolina Soil do Brasil, 在 Pardinho 与 Santa Cruz do Sul 设两处工厂, 形成横跨欧洲、南美两大洲的产能。
History
Founded in 1905 in the village of Pindstrup on the Djursland peninsula of Denmark by entrepreneur Johannes F. la Cour, Pindstrup Mosebrug began as a small peat-cutting operation supplying peat blocks for heating and livestock litter. During the first half of the twentieth century the business expanded into sawmilling, plywood, and later the first Scandinavian chipboard line (1950, Novopan, under a Swiss Fahrni licence). After the Second World War, founder-la-Cour’s son-in-law Bertel Stausholm and the new co-manager Niels Søe (managing director from 1985) shifted the company decisively into growing-media production. The fourth-generation family ownership continues, with René Gjerding appointed Group CEO in 2023.
Peat Sourcing and Substrate Blending
Pindstrup owns peatlands around Stenvad on the Djursland peninsula and operates the full chain from bog to bag, including field block-cutting, vacuum harvesting, controlled mixing, and laboratory quality control of particle size, water uptake, pH, drainage and nutrient release. Today the group runs computer-controlled dosing and small-batch mixing lines that allow substrates to be tuned to crop, production system and local conditions. The portfolio covers pure peat-based mixes, blended growing media, propagation layers, and retail bagged lines for balcony, garden and greenhouse. Sub-brands include Bulrush (UK and Ireland), Danmuld (Danish retail) and Carolina Soil (South America).
Global Production and Sales
Headquartered on the Djursland peninsula of Denmark with production sites also at Kongerslev and Nørhalne, Pindstrup has expanded internationally since the 1970s. The Northern Ireland subsidiary Bulrush Horticulture Ltd was established in 1979 at Magherafelt. Pindstrup Mosebrug S.A.E was set up in Spain in 1989 after the acquisition of a peat company near Burgos. In the early 1990s a joint venture with an Estonian peat company created Estonian Peat Products in Viljandi. SIA Pindstrup Latvia was founded in 1998 at Balozi. In 2021 the group acquired Carolina Soil do Brasil, adding two plants at Pardinho and Santa Cruz do Sul. The group discloses that its substrates reach customers in more than 100 countries, with sales offices and consultants across North America, East Asia, South-East Asia and continental Europe.
Quality Control and R&D
Quality is monitored at every step of production, from particle size and water uptake to pH, drainage and nutrient release. The group’s R&D centre in Denmark works closely with universities, research institutes and commercial growers, running trials in Spain, the Nordic countries and elsewhere to develop reduced-peat and peat-free growing media suited to specific crops and local conditions. Pindstrup has produced a continuous Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) statement for years, and is among the few substrate producers that publish life-cycle assessments (LCAs) and ESG disclosures on a regular basis.
Peatland Restoration and Sustainability
Drawing on more than 40 years of on-site experience after peat extraction, the group carries out water-level management and vegetation establishment on worked-out bogs, gradually returning harvested areas to wetland, meadow or woodland habitats. The use of wood fibre, composted bark and coir in substrates has been steadily increased, and the group already supplies peat-free and peat-reduced lines for both professional and retail markets in the UK and Ireland, with retail peat-free launches planned in Denmark from 2023 onwards.
