A Century of Family Smithing

Sneeboer is a family-owned garden tool manufacturer based in Bovenkarspel, North Holland. Arie Sneeboer founded the business in January 1913. It grew from a village smithy, moved into stainless-steel garden tools in the 1950s, expanded its forge, and entered European garden markets. The fourth generation assumed leadership in 2022 and continues to combine inherited craft with modern production.

A Hand-Forged Tool System

The company makes trowels, hoes, forks, rakes, spades, plant supports, and other garden tools from high-quality stainless steel. Its craftspeople shape, weld, harden, sharpen, and fit handles in the company workshop. The tools are designed for balance, durability, repair, and long service. Steel, stainless-steel, and titanium components carry a fifty-year guarantee, while wooden handles carry a one-year guarantee.

Royal Recognition and Global Reach

Around its centenary, Sneeboer received recognition as a supplier to the Dutch Royal Household. It has maintained an international presence through dealer networks and major horticultural events, including the Chelsea Flower Show. Collaborations with Piet Oudolf and Great Dixter translate the practical knowledge of designers and gardeners into tools for planting, weeding, dividing, and careful soil work.

Craft Combined with Cleaner Production

Sneeboer retains traditional forging knowledge while investing in cleaner manufacturing. Its workshop has three hundred and thirty-two solar panels that generate about one hundred thousand kilowatt-hours annually, while efficiency measures have reduced annual consumption to roughly sixty thousand. Solar-powered induction heating replaces the coke forge and cuts more than twelve thousand kilograms of carbon emissions per year, alongside laser cutting, laser welding, and material recycling.

Design Partnerships and Long Service

The company expresses its product philosophy as tools made for life and for generations to come. Its ranges include Piet Oudolf selections, Great Dixter tools, and limited collaborative editions, with selected partnerships supporting garden conservation and education. Cleaning, sharpening, linseed-oil treatment, dry storage, repair, and parts service are presented as essential practices that keep a well-made tool useful for decades.
