Fahner Vaste Planten

Origin and ownership

Fahner Vaste Planten is a Dutch perennial plant nursery combined with a small landscaping company (hoveniersbedrijf), located in the village of Deurningen in the municipality of Dinkelland, eastern Overijssel. The business is family-run and branded simply as Fahner on its website header, logo and content image watermarks. The WordPress site carries the schema.org datePublished 2018-01-03 and a footer copyright reading ©2018 Fahner Vaste Planten. There is no public statement on founders, generations or a specific founding year: the about page focuses on three plain facts — they grow their own plants, they sell to private gardeners year-round, and they keep a free show garden on the premises.

Growings practice and plant range

Almost all perennials on sale are raised on site rather than bought in from other nurseries. Plants are grown in the larger p11 (about 11 cm) pot size and the full production cycle is run without chemical pesticides. Beyond perennials, the nursery also stocks ornamental grasses, ferns, trees and shrubs so that visitors can put together a complete planting plan for any garden situation in a single visit. The retail beds are laid out alphabetically by Latin name; every plant carries an information board (botanical name, habit, flowering period, photo) and a price tag with the same data so that customers can match plants back at home. A web Catalogus is published as a reference, but the nursery explicitly warns it may differ from current stock and that prices are indicative.

Show garden and open days

A free-to-enter display garden (showtuin) sits on the nursery grounds, with mature plants shown in real garden conditions so that visitors can study flowering time, leaf shape, mature height and good neighbours in the open ground before buying. Each plant carries a name label so that customers can locate the same variety back in the retail area. The show garden is open all year round free of charge, which is the nursery’s main point of difference from a pure web-shop. Once a year the nursery hosts the Kwekerijdagen / Tuinfair open weekend, inviting a long list of small Dutch specialist nurseries and garden craft stalls to set up on site — alpine specialists, clematis and rare hosta growers, pick-your-own cut flowers, container plants, tropical and bulb growers, eco garden tools, smoked salmon and more. For 2026 the open days are Saturday 29 August and Sunday 30 August, 10:00–16:00, free admission.

Seasonal opening hours

Retail to private customers runs roughly from March through mid-November. The rest of the year the team is in the office but does not sell to private visitors. During the retail season: Monday to Friday 8:00–17:00, Saturday 8:00–16:00, Sunday closed. On King’s Day the nursery closes at 12:30 (or stays closed if King’s Day falls on a Sunday); Ascension Day, Easter Monday and Easter Tuesday, and Whit Monday and Whit Tuesday are also closed. From December through February the private retail part is shut but the office is staffed 8:00–16:00 Monday to Friday. This seasonal retail-plus-year-round-wholesale rhythm is typical of small Dutch perennial specialists.

Landscaping work and getting in touch

Alongside plant retail, the company operates as a hoveniersbedrijf — a Dutch landscaping contractor — taking on private garden design and build work and bringing the planting combinations developed on the show garden into clients’ own gardens. Visitors can come in person during the open season; outside visitors requests are handled by email and phone via the website’s contact page. The nursery specifically asks sat-nav users to enter Deurningen (Dinkelland) as the place of arrival rather than relying on the postal-code address alone — a common detail in small eastern Netherlands villages. Up-to-date street address, postcode and phone numbers are kept on the official website’s contact page, which is the safest place to look before visiting.
