苗圃概况与历史
Bamboekwekerij Kimmei 位于荷兰北布拉班特省法尔肯斯瓦德 (Valkenswaard),是一家以竹子为主的家族式苗圃。苗圃创办于 1990 年,至今已积累超过三十五年的种植经验。园内建有一处同龄的示范园,从几厘米高的地被竹到接近十五米高的温带竹都能实地看到成年植株的状态,客户在购买之前可以先观察它们日后长成的样子。

周边业务与造园服务
苗圃常年参与多个园林项目的设计与施工,提供从竹篱笆、庭院绿屏到整体竹主题庭园的方案与植物供应。除了标准苗圃销售,他们也出版与竹子相关的目录和文章,并通过线上网店销售部分品种。苗圃内有专人可以就竹子选种、栽植与维护提供咨询,尤其擅长解决冬季绿篱、屏障遮挡等具体使用场景的需求。

Nursery overview and history
Bamboekwekerij Kimmei is a family-run bamboo nursery located in Valkenswaard, North Brabant, in the south of the Netherlands. The nursery was established in 1990, which gives the team more than thirty-five years of hands-on experience with bamboo in a Western European climate. A mature demonstration garden of the same age grows alongside the nursery, where plants from a few centimetres up to nearly fifteen metres tall can be viewed as full-grown specimens before a customer decides what to buy.
Founders and team
The nursery was founded by Jos van der Palen, an art painter by training who turned his attention to bamboo and built Kimmei around it. Day-to-day work at the nursery is shared with Gerry Rovers and Theo Willems, who together run the site when it is open to the public. Over the years Jos has written numerous articles on bamboo, ornamental grasses and exotic plants for horticultural and trade magazines in the Netherlands, Germany, France and elsewhere.
Bamboo collection and scale
Kimmei maintains a working collection of more than three hundred bamboo species and cultivars, one of the widest bamboo ranges available from a single nursery in Europe. From that collection around thirty of the most reliable forms are singled out as the ‘Best bamboo choice’ for garden use. The nursery also grows a sizeable range of ornamental grasses, several Araliaceae, and a selection of hardy exotics such as Eucalyptus and ginger-family plants used to complement bamboo in landscape schemes.
Related plants and design services
The nursery regularly takes part in landscape projects, supplying plants and design input for bamboo hedges, screening plantings and full bamboo-themed gardens. Alongside plant sales, Kimmei publishes catalogues and articles on bamboo and runs an online shop for a number of its varieties. Staff are happy to advise on species selection, planting and long-term maintenance, with particular experience in wintergreen hedges and visual screening between neighbouring properties.
Visiting address and opening hours
Valkenswaard sits in the southern Netherlands close to the Belgian border, surrounded by woodland and nature reserves, which makes a nursery visit easy to combine with a short weekend trip. The nursery is open to the public on Fridays and Saturdays from ten to four, and visits on other days can be arranged by phone or email. Payment by PIN card is accepted on site, and staff speak Dutch, English, German and French.
