历史由来
德国花园 Landhaus Ettenbühl 坐落在巴登-符腾堡州南部马尔格拉夫兰德 (Markgräflerland) 的巴特贝林根-黑尔廷根 (Bad Bellingen-Hertingen, 79415), 位于弗赖堡与巴塞尔之间一片开阔的缓坡地带, 占地约 7 公顷, 是德国南部规模较大的英式园林之一。园区原为一座独立的农庄 (Aussiedlerhof), 起初只是 Gisela 与 Alfred Seidel 夫妇的私人玫瑰园——两人想借侍弄花草来缓解日常工作的压力, 但对历史玫瑰、稀有乔灌木的收藏越来越投入, 每添一株都要为它寻一处合适的位置, 久而久之整片土地被改造成一座按英式传统营造的园林景观, 至今已经营 40 余年。
园区布局
园区由 25 个主题花园组成, 包括英式玫瑰园、Cottage 花园、菜园 (Potager) 和水景园等不同风格, 各自对应一种园艺主题或植物搭配, 沿步道和小径串成连续的游览路线。园中保留并扩展了大量历史玫瑰、稀有乔木与灌木, 其中 鹅耳枥木迷宫 (Hainbuchenlabyrinth) 是南德地区最大的一座。园内的玫瑰与多年生植物苗圃常年开放, 访客可顺道带几株合意的品种回家; 园边还设有花园商店, 出售园艺工具、装饰品和与玫瑰主题相关的小件。
玫瑰与苗圃
玫瑰是 Ettenbühl 的核心——目前园内收集了 超过 1000 个玫瑰品种, 春夏两季形成连绵的花期; 玫瑰与多年生植物苗圃常年经营 600 余种玫瑰及大量配花植物, 是当地园艺爱好者熟悉的去处。访客既可在园中漫步赏花, 也可以在苗圃里向花匠请教具体品种的习性、栽种要点和搭配建议。2026 年 5 月, 园方还正式开放了由英国园艺师 John Scarman 参与策划的「Scarman 玫瑰园」, 集中展示他在英国选育的若干玫瑰品系。
英式花园学校
「英语花园学校」(English Gardening School) 于 1998 年 11 月由园方与英国知名园艺师 John Scarman 共同创办, 是园方长期推广的园艺教学项目。学校把园中 40 余年生的花园作为「教室」, 通过周末课程、专题工坊与一日游学, 向访客介绍英式园艺在实践与艺术两个层面的手法; 最早开设的课程是面向玫瑰爱好者的「Rosenfreunde-Wochenende」(玫瑰之友周末), 此后逐步扩展到英式园艺、气候变化应对、花艺等多个方向。课程由 John Scarman 主讲, Stefanie Körner 担任翻译和助教, 学员在课程间隙可以享用茶点与三道式午餐。
住宿与餐饮
园中设有英式风格的 Bed & Breakfast 民宿, 由最初的 4 间客房逐步扩为一座小型乡村酒店, 客房名称多取自花草, 整栋建筑爬满常春藤; 园方另设餐厅与茶园, 提供周日与节假日的早午餐 (Brunch)、经典英式下午茶 (Classic English Teatime) 以及以本地食材为主的午餐与晚餐。园方按季节举办玫瑰节、花园导览、户外音乐会与合唱节等活动, 玫瑰盛花期与初秋的金色时段是访客最多的两个窗口。
History
Landhaus Ettenbühl lies in the rolling Markgräflerland of southern Baden-Württemberg, just outside Bad Bellingen-Hertingen (postal code 79415) between Freiburg and Basel. Set on what was once an isolated farmstead (Aussiedlerhof), the garden covers about 7 hectares and is one of the larger English-style landscape parks in southern Germany. It began as a private rose garden belonging to Gisela and Alfred Seidel, who started digging beds as a relief from their day jobs. Their collection of old roses and rare trees and shrubs kept growing, and each new favourite demanded a place of its own; over four decades the working farm gradually turned into a park laid out in the best English tradition.
Garden Layout
Today the garden is arranged as a chain of 25 themed gardens — among them an English rose garden, a cottage garden, a potager, a water garden and other sections — each illustrating a different planting idea or horticultural mood, and connected by paths that lead the visitor from one to the next. The historic rose collection is supplemented by rare trees, shrubs and herbaceous plantings, and the park contains the largest hornbeam maze (Hainbuchenlabyrinth) in southern Germany. A rose and perennial nursery, open year-round, lets visitors take plants home; a small garden shop next to it sells tools, gifts and rose-themed goods.
Roses & Nursery
Roses remain the heart of Ettenbühl. The garden itself holds more than 1,000 rose varieties, while the nursery regularly offers over 600 rose cultivars together with a wide range of companion plants, and is a familiar port of call for rosarians from the region. Visitors are welcome to wander the beds and ask the gardeners about habit, pruning or planting combinations. In May 2026 the garden formally opened «Scarman’s Rosegarden», a new section developed with the English gardener John Scarman to show several of the rose lines he has selected in Britain.
English Garden School
The on-site English Gardening School was co-founded in November 1998 by the Ettenbühl team and the British gardener John Scarman, with the aim of introducing visitors to the practical and artistic sides of English gardening. The 40-year-old park itself serves as the classroom. The very first course was the «Rosenfreunde-Wochenende» (Rose Friends Weekend) for rose enthusiasts; over the years the programme has grown to include English gardening, climate-adapted planting and floristry. Courses are taught by John Scarman with Stefanie Körner translating and assisting, and tea, coffee, croissants and a three-course lunch with wine are served during the day.
Stay & Dining
Within the grounds, an English-style Bed & Breakfast — originally four rooms in the ivy-covered old guesthouse and now a small country hotel — lets guests stay on site, while the garden restaurant and tearoom serve a Sunday and public-holiday brunch, Classic English Teatime and seasonal lunch and dinner menus based on regional produce. The garden also hosts a rose festival, guided walks, open-air concerts and a choral festival each year; the main rose flush in late spring and the golden tones of early autumn are the two busiest windows for visitors.
