历史沿革
“德国园艺图书馆” Deutsche Gartenbaubibliothek 的前身可追溯至 1822 年, 由园艺景观大师 Peter Joseph Lenné 参与创立的 “普鲁士王国园艺促进协会” (Verein zur Beförderung des Gartenbaues in den Königlich Preußischen Staaten) 通过交换与采集活动逐渐形成馆藏. 1920 年代, 受德国园艺总会委托, 植物学家 Robert Zander (1892–1969) 提出将多家园艺协会分散藏书合并为一所中央图书馆的设想. 1936 年, 八家园艺组织联合成立 “Bücherei des Deutschen Gartenbaues” 即德国园艺文库, 由 Zander 长期主持; 1952 年改组为注册协会, 1965 年通过 90 年寄存协议进入柏林工业大学图书馆, 2004 年起作为特藏部门运营, 2017 年更名为 Deutsche Gartenbaubibliothek, 以去除与纳粹时期相关的旧称.
馆藏规模与历史跨度

服务与读者使用
图书馆的使用遵循柏林工业大学图书馆总馆规则. 1945 年后入藏的大部分专著与期刊开架陈列, 闭架书库文献与古籍 (通常指 1850 年以前出版者) 仅供馆内阅览, 凭身份证或护照方可调取. 个人用户可在预约后进入档案库查阅资料; 协会工作人员与志愿者可在限定时间内协助答复咨询并按需复制. 注册会员可凭柏林工业大学图书馆借书证免费外借, 居住柏林以外者可由协会代办邮寄, 邮资自理, 同时享受一定额度的免费高分辨率扫描 (通常为 600 dpi TIFF) 与每年若干小时的深度研究时间.

History and Origins
The Deutsche Gartenbaubibliothek traces its roots back to 1822, when landscape designer Peter Joseph Lenné helped establish the Verein zur Beförderung des Gartenbaues in den Königlich Preußischen Staaten. Through years of exchange and collecting, the society built up a sizeable library that was soon supplemented by parallel collections held by other horticultural and plant-lovers’ societies. In the mid-1920s, botanist Robert Zander (1892–1969), commissioned by the Reichsverband des deutschen Gartenbaues to standardise crop nomenclature, proposed fusing these scattered holdings into a single central library. Eight horticultural organisations founded the Bücherei des Deutschen Gartenbaues in 1936 with Zander as its longtime director; in 1952 it was reorganised as a registered association, in 1965 it was deposited for 90 years with the Universitätsbibliothek der Technischen Universität Berlin, and in 2017 the Bücherei, the association and the Sondersammlung Gartenbaubücherei were renamed Deutsche Gartenbaubibliothek to drop the names still tied to the Nazi era.
Holdings and Historical Span
The library has been housed since 1965 as a special department of the Universitätsbibliothek der TU Berlin, holding about 55,000 volumes of monographs and periodicals, of which roughly 24,000 are monographs, plus tens of thousands of further journal parts. The printed record spans more than four centuries, from the 1529 Pflantzbüchlein by Domitzer to the present day, with periodicals reaching back to 1783. Sixteenth-century herbals, art and curiosity books and Hausväterliteratur, the larger wave of seventeenth-century garden books and didactic poems, eighteenth- and nineteenth-century florilegia with hand-coloured plates, the pomological inheritance of the former Deutscher Pomologen-Verein, and post-1945 scholarly literature together form one of the most significant horticultural collections in Europe and beyond. The association also maintains its own digital archives, including the full run of the members’ journal Zandera and selected public-domain historical works.
Access, Loans and Reproduction
Use of the Gartenbaubibliothek follows the regulations of the TU Berlin university library. Most post-1945 monographs and periodicals are available on open shelves and may be borrowed, while closed-stack material and Rara (typically works published before 1850) are reference-only and released on presentation of a national ID card or passport. Individuals may access the archive by prior appointment, and association staff or volunteers can answer enquiries and supply reproductions within set time limits. Members receive a free TU Berlin library card, may borrow Gartenbaubibliothek volumes by post (postage paid by the user) from the in-Berlin lending service, and enjoy a quota of free high-resolution scans (usually 600 dpi TIFF) and a yearly allowance of research time beyond standard reference requests.
Association, Journal and Membership
The library is run by the registered association Deutsche Gartenbaubibliothek e.V., a non-profit body based in Berlin. Its current chairs are Dr.-Ing. habil. Sylvia Butenschön (1. Vorsitzende) and Dr. habil. Clemens Alexander Wimmer (2. Vorsitzender), with Katharina Baumgart as treasurer (Kassenwart) and Frank Singhof as managing director (Geschäftsführer). The association publishes Zandera: Mitteilungen aus der Deutschen Gartenbaubibliothek twice a year in spring and autumn, reporting on historical garden books, garden and plant history, association projects and new acquisitions; all issues up to 2017 are freely available on JSTOR, and issues from 2018 onwards can be downloaded from the website. Annual membership starts at €35 for individuals, €100 for institutions, with reduced rates for students and apprentices and a lifelong membership option.
Digital Resources, Research Links and Address
The association runs the Gärtnerdatenbank, an in-house biographical database of more than 16,000 source citations covering some 850 personalities and over 200 institutions, drawing on the Biographische Sammlung of the Gartenbaubibliothek, the Zander card index and the private archive of the late Jutta Debor. Public digital collections curated by the association cover monographs, periodicals, pomologies and nursery catalogues; externally it links to the digitised holdings of German, Austrian, French, British and North American libraries, including the European Nursery Catalogue Collection. The physical library is housed as a special department of the Universitätsbibliothek of TU Berlin in Berlin-Charlottenburg.
