(The Orchid Council of New Zealand,简称 OCNZ)是一家全国性的联合会,把新西兰各地独立且自治的兰花社团集合到一起。

OCNZ 当前主席为 Keith Smart(Waikato),副主席 Allan Rae(Manawatu)和 Glenys MacRae(Waitakere),秘书 Phil Thomsen(Whanganui),对外联络与会员事务可在其主页联系页查询。

About the Organisation

The Orchid Council of New Zealand (OCNZ) is a federation of independent, autonomous orchid societies throughout New Zealand. It is a registered incorporated society and a registered charity, supported through membership fees and in-kind contributions from its affiliated societies.

Objectives

OCNZ’s stated objectives are to promote the study, cultivation and conservation of orchids; provide information and education about orchid culture; advance orchid growing as a recreational activity for all ages; maintain procedures and standards for judging and awarding superior orchid forms and culture; support national and international orchid conferences and exhibitions; advocate for the conservation of New Zealand native orchids; and act as the Heritage Protection Authority for the Iwitahi native orchid reserve.

Judging and Publications

OCNZ judging has been running since 1978, with continuous award records from that year. The annual Orchids Yearbook announces the George Fuller Trophy (Orchid of the Year), the Cymbidium of the Year, the Species Orchid of the Year, and the Cultural Award of the Year. The 2025 winners include Fredclarkeara After Dark ‘Darth Vader’ (Shawn Putt), Cymbidium Robert Duvall ‘Winston’ (Jane Napper), and Vanda tricolor ‘Ruru’ (Hubert & Tania Musiers). Earlier yearbooks and back issues of the journal Orchids in New Zealand (1975-1996) are catalogued on the Past Journals page.

Iwitahi Heritage Protection Area

Iwitahi sits along State Highway 5 between Napier and Taupo. In 1985 the Taupo Orchid Society field-trip recorded an abundance of native orchids under Pinus nigra, including Chiloglottis valida and Calochilus robertsonii. In August 1987 OCNZ met with Timberlands to set up the original 5.9-hectare Heritage Protection Area reserve, which has since been managed for native orchid conservation. Enquiries can be directed through the official site’s Contact page.
