协会背景与定位
Idaho Native Plant Society (简称 INPS) 是 1989 年在美国爱达荷州成立的州级非营利组织, 属于 501(c)(3) 慈善类机构, 联邦税号 EIN 82-0427674, 工作范围覆盖整个爱达荷州的原生植物与植物群落保护. 协会的官方使命是促进对原生植物及其群落的兴趣, 收集并分享爱达荷州本土植物学各阶段的信息, 帮助公众对本地原生植物形成理解和欣赏, 并把这一自然遗产留给下一代. 在 loasa.idahonativeplants.org/about-inps/ 中, 协会把自身定位为「倡导和理解我们的原生植物群」, 强调教育、研究和栖息地保护三条主线, 跟 BLM、Idaho Department of Fish and Game、US Fish and Wildlife Service、Forest Service 等机构保持长期合作, 同时由高校学者、专业顾问和当地志愿者共同参与决策.
本地分会体系
INPS 在爱达荷州境内共设有六个活跃分会和一个暂停活动分会, 每个分会都对应一个特定城市或县, 负责组织当地的演讲、野外考察、会员活动和植物展售: Calypso 分会覆盖 Coeur d’Alene 地区, Loasa 分会覆盖 Twin Falls, Pahove 分会覆盖 Boise 与 Ada County, Sawabi 分会覆盖 Pocatello, White Pine 分会覆盖 Moscow 与 Latah County, Wood River 分会覆盖 Blaine County, Upper Snake 分会原覆盖 Idaho Falls 但目前为 Inactive (暂停活动) 状态. 各分会的活动安排除登在州级季刊 Sage Notes 外, 也会同步到 Facebook、Instagram 和 Flickr 等社交平台, 协会总部的邮件地址 inpssocialmedia@gmail.com 用于接收供 Instagram 使用的来稿照片, 投稿时附作者署名、照片说明和可选的说明文字, 内容不限植物、风景、昆虫、传粉者、野生动植物以及人物特写. 多数分会的社交账号由本地志愿者管理, Pahove (Boise 地区) 跟 Boisefrontnature.com 合作, 把当地的野花徒步路线和物种清单整合到协会平台.
常年活动与会议
协会每年的核心活动包括三类. 第一类是 Idaho Rare Plant Conference (RPC), 这是与 BLM、爱达荷鱼类与猎物部、US Fish and Wildlife Service、Forest Service 等机构联合主办的跨机构学术会议, 一般隔年举行, 主要议程包括更新 INPS Rare Plant List (稀有植物保护名录)、稀有植物专题演讲和保护议题讨论, 是爱达荷州稀有植物保护等级评估的核心机制. 第二类是 INPS Statewide Annual Meeting / Campout 全州年会, 2026 年 7 月 10–12 日由 Loasa 分会主办、Wood River 分会协办, 地点在 Mt. Harrison 的 Thompson Flats Campground, 营地海拔 8,400 英尺, 北邻 Pomerelle 滑雪场、南接 City of Rocks National Reserve, 重点考察高山带本土植物. 第三类是 Idaho Botanical Foray 夏季年度植物采集活动, 由各分会轮流承办, 是采集标本和交流的重要场合. 除这三类核心会议之外, 六个分会每月还会举办本地分会月会、野外考察 (Field Trip)、野花漫步 (Wildflower Walks) 以及原生植物展售, Upper Snake 分会因人手不足暂停.
教育与奖学金项目
INPS 把支持学生研究和公众教育列为长期投入, 主要通过两个常设项目实现. 一是 Education, Research, and Inventory Grant (ERIG) 教育研究与调查资助, 单笔资助上限 $1,500, 经费用于支持对爱达荷原生植物及其群落的研究、保育和教育项目, 2026 年 12 月 29 日为 2027 年度的申请截止日, 申请通过 erig-news 子页面公布的指引提交, 协会同时接受 PayPal 渠道的定向捐款扩大 ERIG 池. 二是 INPS Student Scholarship Program 学生奖学金, 每年授予 $2,000, 接受 Idaho 州内任何 2 年制或 4 年制认证高校的全日制或非全日制本科生或研究生申请, 2027 年度的截止日期为 3 月 15 日, 申请要求提交关于爱达荷原生植物的研究或保育经历, 协会鼓励获奖者把成果带回公众教育中. 两个项目的评选都公开透明, 获奖名单在 Sage Notes 和子页面公布, 旨在为爱达荷州本土植物研究培养下一代人才.
出版与社区资源

Society Background
The Idaho Native Plant Society (INPS) is a statewide 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 1989 in the U.S. state of Idaho (EIN 82-0427674) and devoted to the study, appreciation and conservation of Idaho’s native flora and plant communities. The society’s stated mission is to promote interest in native plants and plant communities, collect and share information on all phases of Idaho’s botany, foster understanding and appreciation of the native flora, and preserve this rich heritage for future generations. INPS works alongside the Bureau of Land Management, Idaho Department of Fish and Game, US Fish and Wildlife Service, the Forest Service, academic researchers and local consultants to coordinate plant-conservation decisions across the state.
Local Chapter System
INPS maintains six active chapters plus one inactive chapter across Idaho, with each chapter anchored in a specific city or county and responsible for local meetings, field trips, plant sales and outreach: Calypso (Coeur d’Alene), Loasa (Twin Falls), Pahove (Boise), Sawabi (Pocatello), White Pine (Moscow) and Wood River (Blaine County); the Upper Snake (Idaho Falls) chapter is currently listed as Inactive. Chapter events are announced through Sage Notes, the society’s Facebook page (IdahoNativePlants), its Instagram (idahonativeplantsociety) and its Flickr group, with photos and captions submitted to inpssocialmedia@gmail.com for the Instagram feed. Local volunteers manage most chapter accounts, and the Pahove chapter cooperates with Boisefrontnature.com to integrate Boise-area wildflower walks and species lists into the network.
Recurring Events and Conferences
The society organizes three statewide events each year. The Idaho Rare Plant Conference (RPC) is held every other year in cooperation with BLM, Idaho Department of Fish and Game, US Fish and Wildlife Service, the Forest Service and academic researchers; its core agenda is updating the INPS Rare Plant List, allocating protection ranks and presenting research on rare species and conservation priorities. The INPS Statewide Annual Meeting / Campout rotates among chapters; in 2026 it ran from July 10–12 at Thompson Flats Campground on Mt. Harrison (8,400 ft), hosted by the Loasa chapter and assisted by Wood River, focusing on the alpine flora of south-central Idaho. The Idaho Botanical Foray is an annual summer plant-collecting trip hosted in turn by the chapters. Beyond these three, all chapters run monthly meetings, field trips, wildflower walks and native plant sales; the Upper Snake chapter is paused.
Education and Scholarship Programs
INPS channels long-term investment in research and education through two standing programs. The Education, Research, and Inventory Grant (ERIG) awards up to $1,500 per application to projects that improve understanding of Idaho’s native flora or habitats; applications for the 2027 cycle close on December 29, 2026, and PayPal donations to ERIG are accepted. The INPS Student Scholarship Program awards $2,000 annually to full- or part-time undergraduates or graduate students enrolled at any accredited 2-year or 4-year college or university in Idaho, with the 2027 deadline set at March 15; applicants describe their interest in native flora and their commitment to sharing that knowledge publicly. Recipient lists appear in Sage Notes and on the program’s news page, supporting a pipeline of researchers committed to Idaho’s botanical heritage.
Publications and Community Resources
The society’s quarterly newsletter Sage Notes is produced centrally and distributed as a free PDF download; the Summer 2026 issue is online, covering feature articles, member photography, project updates and chapter happenings. The Native Plant Resources page curates tools such as the Idaho Wildflowers and Craters of the Moon apps, My Garden Answers and iNaturalist, alongside reference databases including Flora of North America e-flora, the National PLANTS Database, NatureServe, the Burke Museum and the Consortium of the Pacific Northwest; printed and PowerPoint guides cover Southwestern Idaho, the Intermountain Region and the Boise Front. A buyers’ list points Idaho gardeners to local native-plant sellers and specialty growers, helping match seedlings to local climate and avoiding inappropriate introductions. The INPS Community Group on Facebook has more than 2,700 followers and serves as the main venue for plant-identification questions and conservation discussions.
