Garden-Design Co.

公司把”科学 × 创造力”作为核心方法论,以设计 (Garden Design / Landscape Design / Planting Design)、咨询 (Site Surveys / Plant Identification / Garden Doctor)、管理 (Development Planning / Contract Supervision / Staff Training) 与采购 (Planting Lists / Materials Specification / Supply and Plant) 四大板块支撑完整项目周期。

公司公开的设计信念围绕”园艺在每个地方都重要 (we believe gardening matters…everywhere)”展开,主张花园对平衡生活不可或缺——”You have to live it”。

Founders and Company Evolution

The Design and Landscape Centre was founded in 1990 in the United Kingdom by Colin Elliott and Chantal Elliott, initially offering garden design and landscape construction under the Design and Landscape Centre brand. Over nearly three decades the practice grew into one of the UK's most respected domestic landscaping contractors, accumulating more than 1,000 garden projects across the British Isles, mainland Europe and further afield. In 2005 the company opened its French office and formally rebranded as Garden-Design Co., marking its transition into a bilingual European practice. Today the studio operates from dual locations: a design office in High Wycombe west of London and a renovated 18th-century mansion in Chabris, central France, which also hosts the Garden Design Academy.

Design Philosophy and Service Scope

Four interlocking service pillars define the practice: Design (Garden Design, Landscape Design, Planting Design), Consultancy (Site Surveys, Plant Identification, Garden Doctor), Management (Development Planning, Contract Supervision, Staff Training) and Sourcing (Planting Lists, Materials Specification, Supply and Plant). These pillars are deployed across a full project life cycle, combining art, craft and science. The studio refuses to be pigeon-holed as a “modern” or “traditional” designer and instead applies creative latitude across styles, property types and geographic contexts. A signature methodology merges spirit of place, sustainability, design thinking and cutting-edge technology to produce gardens that remain legible and habitable for decades.

Representative Projects and Geographic Reach

With close to 1,500 completed gardens to its name, the practice has delivered projects across the United Kingdom, France, Spain, the United States, China and other countries, serving private estates, boutique hospitality operators, developers and public institutions. A core strength is full construction oversight — coordinating masons, planting teams and specialist subcontractors against technical drawings to ensure quality control from groundwork to planting. Plantsmanship is treated as the heart of every garden: deep knowledge of species, cultivars and site ecology allows careful sourcing, sometimes across borders, to secure plants that will thrive long-term. The Garden Design Academy complements this project work by offering structured teaching in planting design, landscape construction and project management.

Design Beliefs and Industry Standing

The studio's publicly stated belief — “we believe gardening matters…everywhere” — anchors its working method: gardens are treated as essential to a balanced life, and the practice looks at the bigger picture before drawing the first line. Research, site visits and dialogue with clients precede any design proposal, and the studio is comfortable producing both harmonious schemes that melt into the wider landscape and bold contrasts of form and colour. Within the UK trade, the practice earned a reputation as an award-grade design-and-build outfit renowned for craftsmanship in the affluent towns and villages north of London; that craft-led identity continues to define its European work today, supported by a teaching programme that feeds back into the wider profession.

Contact and the Garden Design Academy

Prospective clients and collaborators can use the main site (www.garden-design.co.uk) to review the studio's background, project catalogue, design beliefs and blog archive, and to request an initial visit and quotation from either the French or UK office. The Garden Design Academy runs structured programmes for practitioners and serious enthusiasts who want to study planting design, landscape construction and project management at a deeper level. The studio blog is regularly updated with reflections on plants, gardens, design, society, French horticulture and related subjects, and offers a free entry point into the practice's design language and horticultural thinking.
