协会历史与出版物

History and Publications

The Australian Hibiscus Society Inc. was formed in 1967 with the aim to share and exchange hibiscus information and to nurture the love of a common interest. In 1980, then President Jim Howie produced a comprehensive two-book catalogue. In 1985, another catalogue was published by Jim Howie and Les Beers. Both catalogues are featured on “The World of Hibiscus” at www.hibiscusworld.com. Several smaller catalogues have been published since, all containing excellent growing advice, along with the Cultural Notes section of this website.

Activities and Membership Benefits

The Australian Hibiscus Society Inc. meets usually monthly, with alternative activities from time to time. You don’t have to be a member to attend, but there are benefits in joining. For only $30 per family, you receive four magazines a year. The Society also maintains a Facebook page for members and hibiscus enthusiasts to share growing experiences online.

Affiliated Organizations and Network

The Society maintains partnerships with several related organizations: the Hibiscus Society of Western Australia Inc. as an affiliated chapter; the American Hibiscus Society as the leading global hibiscus organization; the Queensland Council of Garden Clubs Inc. as an industry coordination body; and the International Hibiscus Society, dedicated to global hibiscus variety registration and conservation efforts.
