Friends of Discovery Park is an all-volunteer group of citizens from across the Pacific Northwest.

Discovery Park is Seattle’s largest wilderness green space and a Pacific Northwest jewel, attracting one million visitors from across the world each year. Discovery Park is not just a sanctuary for people—it is an essential refuge for wildlife navigating an increasingly fragmented urban landscape. Including sitings of nearly 300 birds species per year and dozens of different animals.

Together, our mission is to defend the integrity of Discovery Park through advocacy, action, and education.

For a half-century, our dedicated volunteers have contributed countless hours to enhancing Discovery Park. Friends has defended this 600 acre urban oasis, ensuring that nature—not development—takes precedence. From trail restoration to park reforestation, we work to preserve and protect Seattle’s largest open space.

At Friends of Discovery Park, our guiding principle remains clear: Keep Discovery Park Wild! We are guided by the Discovery Park Master Plan — a policy document that’s served as the Park’s strategic blueprint since the beginning.

Use our newly updated trail map to take a walk through Discovery Park’s forests, meadows and beaches and enjoy wilderness in the city for yourself.

Due to the tireless dedication of countless volunteers, today Discovery Park is the crown jewel of the Emerald City, attracting visitors from all over the world.

Friends of Discovery Park (FoDP) is an all-volunteer group of citizens from across the Pacific Northwest. Our mission is simple: to defend the integrity of Discovery Park. Since the early days of Discovery Park, we have advocated for this natural space—a place where the beauty of nature takes precedence over human-made works.   

FoDP is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization  that promotes and protects the Park according to its primary purpose, as defined in the Discovery Park Master Plan.

We also acknowledge the Native peoples for whom Discovery Park has been home since time immemorial. We respect their Indigenous and tribal treaty rights, and we honor their culture in all the work we do.

Our 15 board members are the trustees of the organization, and according to our bylaws, make all decisions on behalf of FoDP. We meet monthl
