M.K. Rittenhouse & Sons Ltd. is a Canadian family-owned enterprise with more than a century of history, founded in 1914 by Moses Rittenhouse in Ontario’s Niagara fruit-growing region. The company manufactures and distributes spraying equipment, irrigation, garden tools, and other Green Industry supplies, with a catalog of more than 15,000 products and parts, and is recognized as one of the established leaders in the North American Green Industry.

Company Overview

Founded in 1914, M.K. Rittenhouse began when Moses Rittenhouse hand-built orchard sprayers in his barn at Jordan Station, Ontario, to serve the booming tender-fruit growers of the Niagara region. From those early days of providing spraying equipment and service to fruit and vegetable communities across Ontario, the company built a reputation for reliable, field-tested engineering and responsive customer support.

A Century of Family Leadership

Rittenhouse is a true three-generation family business. After serving in World War II, Moses’s sons Glen and Frank returned to join their father and continued to design, patent, and manufacture agricultural equipment. Glen’s youngest son came aboard in 1985, marking the third generation, and the company moved to St. Catharines, Ontario to accommodate its growth. The company launched its first Buyers’ Guide catalogue in 1991, which quickly became an industry favorite, and created its Garden Tool division in 1999 to bring professional-grade tools to home gardeners for the first time in the company’s 85-year history.

Product Range and Industries Served

Spraying and application equipment has always been Rittenhouse’s signature category, but the catalog has grown to cover landscape equipment, mowers, fertilizer spreaders, snow equipment, golf-course maintenance, irrigation and watering, composting, tires, hand tools, pruners and blades, garden décor, ironwork, fertilizer and pest control, construction sprayers, water and sewage pumps, pressure washers, spray guns, fire-suppression products, and many more — totaling more than 15,000 products and parts. Customers range from professional growers, landscapers, golf courses, forestry, and municipal crews to home gardeners, with additional availability on Amazon.com and Amazon.ca.

Digital Transformation and Modernization

After the print Buyers’ Guide was discontinued in 2003, the company invested fully in e-commerce. A new e-commerce platform launched in 2015, a new corporate office was completed in 2016, and a redesigned website was released in 2020 with advanced features for business customers. Rittenhouse has since expanded warehousing, added strategic U.S. stocking locations, overhauled its parts department, and added new product photography and video on its web pages, while continuing to deliver the highest-quality equipment, parts, and customer service rooted in a century of family tradition.
