配送范围以苗圃为中心,覆盖 Cobourg 到多伦多市中心再到 Uxbridge 一带的金马蹄地区。顾客能直接到 Ajax 实地挑选植物后再下单送达,也可在店内的咖啡车点一杯简餐,加上定期的温室参观活动,整家苗圃既是一间店、也是一个面向园艺爱好者的体验场所。

Position and Family Origins

Vandermeer Nursery is a family-owned garden centre in Ajax, Ontario, in the Durham Region of Canada. Founder Adrian Vandermeer emigrated in the 1950s from Monster in the Netherlands with his brother, working in tobacco fields and lumber camps before settling in Ajax. In 1961 he built an 80-by-50-foot wooden greenhouse by hand on his one-acre lot while keeping his full-time job, selling plants from his driveway on the side.

Decades of Expansion From Greenhouse to Retail

The nursery stayed a side venture for nearly a decade. In 1971 Adrian finally left his day job to run the greenhouse full-time, surviving several unpaid years to keep things going. In 1976 he bought the neighbouring gas station on a one-acre lot and converted it into a retail storefront, joined to the original growing area by a small greenhouse; that old station still stands in the nursery yard. By 1988 the family had leased an additional eight acres and the second generation had begun joining the company.

Scale, Home-Grown Output and Variety

Today the property covers roughly 36 acres in Ajax, including more than 120,000 square feet of glass greenhouses. Vandermeer grows around 3.5 million plants a year on site and carries more than 4,000 plant varieties, covering hardy perennials, native shrubs and trees, patio annuals, indoor foliage, and Ontario-grown produce.

Sustainable Growing and Community

The business runs on five pillars: sustainable production using IPM, beneficial insects, biodegradable and recyclable pots, and rainwater recycling; locally curated varieties chosen for cold tolerance, disease resistance and a longer colour season; customer add-ons such as repotting, delivery and planting; community education through free in-store seminars and school partnerships; and an Ontario-produce market stocking fruits and vegetables from neighbouring farms.

Delivery Range and In-Store Experience

Delivery runs from Cobourg through downtown Toronto to Uxbridge, covering most of the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Customers can pick out their plants in person at Ajax before arranging shipping, stop by the on-site coffee trailer for a warm drink, and join the holiday greenhouse tour to see the family’s poinsettias and growing operation up close.
