Overview

Home&Garden is a Dutch home and garden lifestyle magazine and online platform covering interiors, gardening, houseplants, kitchen gardens and DIY projects for households. It was launched in 2002 as a print magazine by Sanoma’s Dutch division and operated as part of Sanoma’s consumer magazine portfolio in the Netherlands before being sold in 2014 to New Skool Media, a specialist publishing house founded by Rob Koghee and Cor Jan Willig to acquire nineteen magazine titles from Sanoma. After the print edition was discontinued in the summer of 2017, the Home&Garden brand continued as an online publication under MediaGladiators, the digital media arm of New Skool Media, and now forms part of the group’s portfolio under Roularta Media Nederland in the Netherlands.

History

Home&Garden was founded in 2002 by Sanoma as one of the Dutch consumer magazine titles in the group’s home and lifestyle portfolio. In 2014, as part of a strategic refocus of its Dutch magazine business, Sanoma sold nineteen titles — including Home&Garden, Seasons, Knipmode, KIJK and Truckstar — to New Skool Media, a publisher newly set up by Rob Koghee and Cor Jan Willig specifically for the acquisition. Editorial teams and digital activities transferred together with the brands, and New Skool Media continued to publish Home&Garden in print and online. In the summer of 2017 New Skool Media discontinued the Home&Garden print magazine; the website continued under MediaGladiators, the digital media subsidiary within the same group. In February 2022, New Skool Media was acquired by Roularta Media Group and on 1 November 2022 was merged into Roularta Media Nederland, its publishing arm in the Netherlands.

Status and Operations

Home&Garden today operates primarily as an online publication under MediaGladiators, with editorial coverage of home renovation, gardening, houseplants, kitchen gardens and DIY projects aimed at readers in the Netherlands and Belgium. The site carries brand content, display advertising and social media campaigns on behalf of advertisers, and reaches its audience mainly through category pages, social channels and a newsletter. Reader services such as subscription questions are handled through the group’s customer service desk. Whether to relaunch a print edition is being evaluated separately by the operator.

Content and Sections

The site organises its articles into a small set of recurring sections. Huis covers housing, energy, interior styling and storage. Tuin covers gardens, terraces, seasonal gardening tasks and garden events. Planten covers indoor houseplants, garden plants and kitchen garden crops. DIY collects hands-on projects and renovation ideas for both indoors and outdoors. Older articles remain accessible through the category archive pages, while readers can sign up for updates via the newsletter form in the site footer; legacy print subscription enquiries are handled by the group’s customer service.
