林场历史与土地沿革
国王林场和丁香苗圃（King’s Tree Farm and Nursery）位于美国马萨诸塞州 Boxford 镇，由 Dick 和 Eva King 夫妇自 1981 年起共同经营，至今已逾四十年。林场的起源可追溯到 1964 年，King 家族购入 14 英亩土地——这片土地原为南北战争时期马萨诸塞州州长 John Andrews 农场的一部分，连同 20 英亩 Dole Meadow 湿地一同纳入。1974 年，家族开始尝试种植圣诞树，第一批成材的圣诞树于 1982 年砍伐出售；其后苗圃逐步转型为以开花树木、常青树和多年生植物为主的家庭式林场。

苗圃主营本土植物（Native Plants）、湿地物种和丁香三大类。丁香是林场最具特色的品类——提供超过 40 种丁香品种，从日本丁香树（Japanese Tree Lilacs）到法国杂交矮丁香（French hybrids / dwarf Lilacs）一应俱全；另有 10 余种其他品种因数量有限采取限量供应。丁香植株规格跨度大，从 1 英尺到 8 英尺高不等。其他常见植物包括白松、云杉、冷杉、蓝莓、山茱萸、枫树、银杏、山月桂、绣球花、欧洲姜、本土杜鹃、杜鹃花、荚莲、玉簪（50 余种）和萱草（30 余种）。

林场是国际丁香协会（International Lilac Society, ILS）、新英格兰丁香分会（Syringa Plus）、美国马萨诸塞州苗圃与景观协会（MNLA）、新英格兰园艺协会（NENA）以及国际植物繁育者协会（IPPS）等多个行业组织的成员。2005 年 5 月 13 日，林场曾接待国际丁香协会（ILS）年会代表团参观访问。2011 年 10 月 8 日，林场与 ILS 新英格兰分会、Syringa Plus 共同举办了秋季丁香节（Fall Lilac Festival），向公众普及丁香品种知识。
营业时间与季节花展
林场季节性营业，2026 年开季时间为 4 月 8 日（星期三）。营业时间为周三至周日 9:00-17:00，周一和周二闭店。丁香花展通常在 5 月 10 日至 6 月 15 日之间——林场鼓励游客即使不购买，也可以驱车或步行穿过苗圃欣赏丁香花季。访客入口位于 Boxford 镇的 133 公路（Washington St 沿线），沿途与 Paisley’s Greenhouse 温室相邻。
经营理念与可持续实践
自建场之初，King 家族就将环保理念（Going Green）融入到业务与个人生活：在苗圃设计、材料与能源选择、堆肥与回收、废弃物处置等环节均以效率与可持续性为优先考量。林场由 Eva King 协助打理到 1994 年；其后扩种过程中，育苗顾问 Roger Coggeshall 在繁殖技术方面给予了长期支持。林场接受信用卡、现金和支票三种支付方式。
Farm History and Land Origins
King’s Tree Farm and Nursery is located in Boxford, Massachusetts, and has been owned and operated by Dick and Eva King since 1981, making it a family-run nursery with over forty years of continuous operation. The land was originally purchased by the King family in 1964 as a 14-acre parcel that was once part of Civil War-era Massachusetts Governor John Andrews’ farm, together with 20 acres of Dole Meadow wetland. In 1974, the family planted their first Christmas trees, which were harvested and sold in 1982; the property gradually shifted thereafter into a nursery focused on flowering trees, evergreens, and perennials.
Lilac Specialty and Native Plants
The nursery specializes in three product lines: native plants, wetland species, and lilacs. Lilacs are the flagship category—more than 40 varieties are offered, ranging from Japanese Tree Lilacs to French hybrids and dwarf lilacs, with another 10-plus cultivars in limited supply. Lilac plants are sold in a wide size range from one foot to over eight feet tall. Other available plants include white pine, spruces, firs, blueberries, dogwood, maples, ginkgo, mountain laurel, hydrangeas, European ginger, native azaleas, rhododendrons, viburnum, hostas (over 50 varieties), and daylilies (over 30 varieties).
Professional Associations and Academic Exchange
The farm is a member of the International Lilac Society (ILS), its New England Chapter Syringa Plus, the Massachusetts Nursery and Landscape Association (MNLA), the New England Nursery Association (NENA), and the International Plant Propagators’ Society (IPPS). On the afternoon of Friday, May 13, 2005, King’s Tree Farm & Nursery hosted a visit from the International Lilac Society during its annual convention. On Saturday, October 8, 2011, the farm co-hosted the Fall Lilac Festival with ILS New England Chapter and Syringa Plus, an open public event for lilac enthusiasts across New England.
Operating Hours and Seasonal Lilac Show
The nursery operates seasonally, with a 2026 opening date of Wednesday, April 8. Regular hours are Wednesday through Sunday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., closed Mondays and Tuesdays. The annual lilac show typically runs between May 10 and June 15; visitors are welcome to drive or walk through the nursery to view the blooming flowers without any purchase obligation. The entrance is on Route 133 (Washington Street) in Boxford, adjacent to Paisley’s Greenhouse.
Philosophy and Sustainable Practices
From the beginning, the King family has integrated environmental consciousness—described on the farm as ‘Going Green’—into the business and personal life through nursery design, materials and energy choices, composting, recycling, and disposal practices, with an overall commitment to efficiency and sustainability. Eva King assisted at the farm until 1994. As the nursery gradually expanded, propagation advisor Roger Coggeshall contributed long-term expertise and experience. The farm accepts credit card, cash, and check payments.
