Founding Story

In 1938, Vannino Vannucci senior left his job as a trained horticultural worker to start his own nursery business in Pistoia, Tuscany. Pistoia is recognized worldwide as the cradle of the Italian and European nursery sector, with unique microclimatic conditions and a long tradition in plant cultivation. His son Moreno joined a few years later, expanding and modernising the nurseries with great dedication and love for plants and horticulture, building Vannucci Piante into an internationally renowned enterprise. Moreno created a professional sales team for export customers, attracted major clients and industry figures, and made Vannucci Piante known worldwide. Today, Vannino Vannucci Jr. successfully runs the family business with a global vision, committed to an even greener future.

Scale and Varieties

The scale of Vannucci Piante is impressive: 250 hectares of open-ground cultivation, 310 hectares of container-grown plants, 52 hectares of greenhouses, and 12 hectares of fruit tree nurseries — totaling approximately 624 hectares. The company cultivates over 3,000 plant species and varieties year-round, testing and selecting new species annually, only adding the finest to its production system. The product catalog covers deciduous trees, conifers, fruit trees, shrubs, ground covers and more, with sizes ranging from seedlings to mature trees, meeting the needs of various large-scale garden projects.

Pistoia Nursery Park

Vannucci Piante is the creator of Europe’s first nursery park — the Pistoia Nursery Park. The park spans over 24 acres (approximately 9.7 hectares) with around a thousand specimens cultivated in soil and containers. Visitors can tour by appointment. The park’s irregular paths deconstruct the classic geometries of a traditional nursery, perfectly blending nature with art. It also features a 49-foot helical column of Carrara marble, a work by contemporary Italian artist Claudio Parmiggiani, symbolizing the infinity of time. Landscape architects can witness the full size and appearance of plants to select the best specimens for their garden projects.
