Harmony Farm Supply & Nursery, located in Sonoma County, California, is one of the region’s longest-established organic gardening supply and nursery businesses. Founded in 1980 by entomologist Kate Burroughs and David Henry, the company pioneered the organic movement in northern California as a supplier of organic fertilizers, ecological pest controls, integrated pest management monitoring tools, drip irrigation components, and CCOF-certified organic vegetable starts. The Press Democrat has described the firm as a benchmark for sustainable agricultural supply in Sonoma County.

History

The business began in 1980 on a wooden pallet in the founders’ carport, addressing the local lack of organic gardening products. Drip irrigation components were added in 1982, and the operation moved to the old Pelletti fruit packing shed in Graton in 1983. In 1990, the company relocated to its current Sebastopol site, expanding to an 8,000-square-foot retail building with a one-acre nursery and adding photovoltaic solar products. In 2007, founders Burroughs and Henry retired to a 14-acre farm in Hawaii to grow organic cacao and vanilla, selling the business to Rick Williams, founder of the Bodega-based Earthbound compost company, and his wife Leah. In 2017, the company acquired the neighboring Cameron & Cameron Vineyard Supply and launched the sister brand Harmony Ag Supply.

Retail Network

Harmony Farm Supply currently operates three retail locations in Sonoma County: the Sebastopol main store on Gravenstein Highway North, the Petaluma @ Barn 5400 branch on Old Redwood Highway, and the Harmony Ag Supply outlet in Fulton focused on vineyard and ranch supplies. All three locations provide retail sales, soil and water testing, nursery plants and seed sales, CCOF-certified organic vegetable starts, and educational workshops.
