De Hofdame Tuinstyling
About De Hofdame Tuinstyling
De Hofdame Tuinstyling is a small, personal garden design studio based in Alkmaar, North Holland (the Netherlands), run by Christine Alkemade. The studio’s tagline “Plant een zoen, oogst een glimlach” reflects its approach of treating gardens as personal expressions rather than as plant collections. Services focus on planting plans, garden design, and before-and-after makeover projects.
Design Approach
Designs combine bulb flowers (bloembollen), perennial plantings and seasonal colour borders, with a strong emphasis on ecological sustainability and personal suitability. The studio’s small scale enables Christine to follow each project through to its second or third season, refining the planting as the garden matures. Public examples are hosted at the studio’s own garden in Alkmaar and at selected roundabouts and community spaces in the surrounding region.
De Couwenhof Project
The De Couwenhof page on the studio’s website sits within the Voor & na (before and after) section and showcases a single residential or small commercial makeover project. It is one of several case studies in the studio’s portfolio and should be read as a project of De Hofdame Tuinstyling rather than as a separate entity.
Seasonal Content and Social Media
Christine publishes weekly content on Instagram (@decouwenhof) and Facebook, covering bulb planting in autumn, primula in early spring, peach-pit compost experiments, and informal garden walk-throughs. Visitors can also contact the studio through the website form to request planting plans or design consultations.
Local and Sector Network
De Hofdame Tuinstyling operates in close connection with Dutch landscape contractors, online plant retailers and biological-pest-control providers. The studio regularly collaborates with Dutch bulb growers on the annual Alkmaarse Hofdame bollenpracht public planting, and the surrounding Alkmaar community treats Christine as one of its local garden ambassadors.
