协会概况

大堪萨斯城水花园协会 (The Water Garden Society of Greater Kansas City, 缩写 WGSGKC) 是美国密苏里州堪萨斯城及其周边都会区由水景花园爱好者组成的同业团体, 总部惯例活动场地在 Our Lady of Sorrows 教堂, 长期面向会员与公众免费开放例行月会。

The Water Garden Society of Greater Kansas City

The Water Garden Society of Greater Kansas City (WGSGKC) is a not-for-profit organization of water gardening enthusiasts based in the Kansas City metro area. Major activities

Annual Water Garden Tour. A one- or two-day open tour held in late spring under the name “Red, White & Bloom Water Garden Tour”. Member gardens and a small number of public landscapes are open for self-paced visits, with each stop hosted by the garden owner or a WGSGKC docent who explains pond construction, plant selection and fish husbandry. The tour is free to attend and is the society’s largest annual public event.

Monthly meetings. Held on the third Wednesday or Thursday evening of each month from September through May at Our Lady of Sorrows church. Each meeting features one or two speakers drawn from the local water gardening community. Past topics have included plant propagation, pond maintenance, fish care, koi and water lily selection, and landscape materials.

Plant exchange and pondside field trips. Held on weekend mornings around the spring and early-summer breaks in the monthly program. Members bring labeled containers of surplus water lilies, marginals and oxygenators; non-members are welcome to drop in. Field trips visit newly built water gardens around the KC metro area, normally on Saturday mornings.

Community service. Volunteer workdays with peer KC metro horticulture groups, most often focused on public-park water features and shoreline cleanup around the spring planting season. WGSGKC also takes part in regional Spring and Fall garden shows such as the Spring Lawn & Garden Show, where it runs short lectures and hands-on demonstrations for the general public.

Practical operations

WGSGKC has no paid staff. An elected board of officers handles meeting programming, the spring tour and the annual budget; most decisions are made at the monthly meeting and recorded in the meeting minutes that follow. The society’s core commitment, restated on the public About page, is that proceeds from member dues and tour activity are reinvested into building and maintaining public water gardens in the KC metro area, including school and library gardens where volunteers can be organized.

Funding comes primarily from individual and family memberships, plus a small surplus from the spring tour. Outreach is largely local. Annual dues published on the Apply for Membership page cover attendance at every monthly meeting from September through May, both days of the spring Water Garden Tour, plant exchange and the email newsletter. New members are introduced at the first meeting they attend and at the plant exchange; existing members volunteer to mentor new pond-builders and plant questions. Drop-in attendance at monthly meetings is open to the public with no prior registration, as long as visitors observe the standard 7 p.m. start time at Our Lady of Sorrows church.
