Representative projects include a lakeside garden inspired by a half-radius brick detail on the house, translated into concentric Corten-steel radii intersected with large Hematite and Iron Ore boulders harvested from Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, and a living-fire installation where succulents are planted in the crevices of weathered limestone to create striking contrast with flames erupting from stone.
Design Team & Project Portfolio
The AguaFina team brings together designers, an aquatic specialist, a chief technician and lead craftsmen. Founder and principal Daryl Toby is described by Style Magazine as an environmentalist and landscape designer “as comfortable in a Brazilian rainforest as he is in a formal Japanese garden.” Aquatic specialist Matt Niemiec holds a BS in Fisheries and Wildlife from Michigan State University and oversees pond-service operations, while design associate Carlos Medrano, a Michigan State Landscape Architecture alumnus, translates concepts into buildable designs.
